Mrs. Slocombe. Plus she was the subject of a running gag on the first series of "Little Britain."
I loved her, the crazy-colored hair, and her pu$$y jokes.

The excerpts on the BBC site finish with one of her other roles, where she played an outrageous snob long before Patricia Routledge took the mantle.

A fearless--and peerless-comedienne.
And I am unanimous in that.

I am so sorry to hear this. I adore her. I love the episode when she talks on a cb radio and runs a trucker off the road.
Wonderful actress.

Wow she was only 86, for some reason I always thought that she was older than that, maybe it has something to do with me watching the show about 30 years ago.
May she rest in peace...

To British TV viewers she is just as well known for her part in "The Liver Birds" a sixties and seventies comedy about two swinging chicks fleeing the nest in 60's Liverpool. She played the upright mum of one of the girls - so classy and well worth a look even now if you can find a link.
I met her once - lovely woman, may she rest in peace.

An interesting tidbit from the NY Times obit:
"'Are You Being Served?' was made in 1972 as a one-shot segment of another series, 'Comedy Playhouse,' but when the killing of several Israeli athletes sent the 1972 Summer Olympics into chaos, the BBC, faced with hours of empty air time, rushed the series onto its schedule. There it stayed for more than a decade."
