The "fake Monica" was Claudia Shear, who wrote and starred in the Broadway hit DIRTY BLONDE.

Ah, I knew it was someone Broadway related, but other than that I was totally stumped.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

And they shunned her because she had a blowdryer.

There were many Broadway people who made appearances on Friends.
One of my favorites was the episode where Rachel learns to do her own laundry. A certain actress (I do believe she originated a role in Ragtime) played the very butch woman who kept trying to steal Rachel's washer/dryer/cart.
Anyone remember who it is? Without Google? My Favorite Episode

Somebody told me it was Lea Delaria, but I'm not sure.

It's not. Lea was in "The One With the Lesbian Wedding."
I'm a bad Friends fan. My Favorite Episode

Just looked up Monica's quote on imdb:

Fine! Judge all you want to but,
[points to Ross]
married a lesbian,
[points to Rachel]
left a man at the altar,
[points to Phoebe]
fell in love with a gay ice dancer,
[points to Joey]
threw a girl's wooden leg in a fire,
[points to the box Chandler's in]
live in a box!

Keep coming back to this thread. Singer - that was another great episode "No soap - no save"...and the brilliant episode when Phoebe cuts Monica's hair like Dudley Moore instead of Demi Moore..
Monica: "She was the actRESS who was in 'Indecent Proposal' and 'Disclosure'.."
Phoebe: "Oh she's got great hair"
Monica: "I know, I know!"....and then the great scene when they're waiting outside Monica's bedroom - "How is she?" Phoebe comes out..."It's too early to say - but it's not looking good."
Ross: "Can we see her"
Phoebe: "No - your hair looks too good"

...fragment of the day...

Camille Saviola - the original Emma Goldman in RAGTIME in Toronto - was the "Mean Woman" at the laundromat. She also played Matron Mama om CHICAGO on Broadway for a while.

Another FRIENDS/RAGTIME connection: One of the ensemble members in the original cast of RAGTIME played the cheery neighbor who sang the "Morning's Here" song to the tune of the Chuck Mangione hit "Feels So Good".

Rachel: Chandler, what are you doing? There is a trash can right there.
Chandler: Well, I thought if I littered, that crying Indian might come by and save us.
