LONDON - Britain's media regulator has chastised a presenter on a BBC children's television program for wearing a T-shirt with a sexually suggestive slogan.
Dominic Wood, co-host of the BBC Saturday morning show "Dick and Dom in da bungalow," wore a shirt bearing the phrase "Morning Wood," a slang term for male arousal.
"On one level the slogan could be viewed as harmless, in that it was morning and the presenter's name was Wood," media regulator Ofcom said. "However it was also clear to some that the phrase had a sexual meaning."
The clothing of presenters on the show, which is aimed at 8- to 12-year-olds, will now be vetted in advance. Ofcom said it recognized that "for its core audience the double entendre was likely to be lost."
The T-SHIRT was suggestive? Jeez, the TITLE of the show sounds right outta Falcon Studios.
Sounds like a bit of an over-reaction to me. I don't even think that I would have noticed... A lot of children's shows have had innuendo thrown in for the adults who happen to be watching. Even Seseme Street.
And I agree...the name of that particular show is much more disconcerting than the T-shirt.
Don't you just love the PC-ness of it all? Jeepers! I mean I got the innuendo but an 8 year old? Give me a break

Actually, 12-year-old boys are the ones most likely to experience "morning wood". Believe me, when you hit 40, it's not a problem anymore!

Christ on a bike, MusicMan, you really are the most bitter and humourless creation, aren't you?
And Master, what's even better, is Dick and Dom are both so outrageously camp.
Would having the two words connected made less of a difference (as Morningwood)? Ajaxx63 has t-shirts that have double entendres that are definitely suggestive.
But I agree, the title of the show is more suggestive than the t-shirt...
Most likely, the presenter knew exactly what it meant. For that reason alone, it was inappropriate.
British kids TV has always been a little strange.
There is something of an urban legend that the "Captain Pugwash" cartoon series featured characters called "Master Bates", "Seman Stains" and "Roger the Cabin Boy". However. this was recently debunked (http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/pugwash.htm).
Supposedly, the following British kids TV show "Rainbow" featured the following dialogue:
The sketch opens with Zippy peeling a banana.....
Zippy: " One skin, two skin, three skin, four... "
George: "Zippy, where is Bungle?"
Zippy: "I think Geoffrey is trying to get him up!"
(We see a view of the door and hear Bungle moaning from behind it)
Bungle: "Geoffrey, I can't get it in!"
Geoffrey: "You managed it last night..."
Bungle: "I know, lets try it round the Otherway. Ooooooh, I've got it in!"
(Bungle and Geoffrey enter the studio with Bungle carrying a hammer and peg kit)
Bungle: " Would you stick this on the shelf, George?"
George: "I can't reach, you'll have to stick it up yourself, Bungle."
Geoffrey (to camera) "Hello everyone! Today we are talking about playing!"
Bungle: "Playing with each other, Geoffrey?"
Geoffrey: "Yes, Bungle! Do you have a special friend that you like to play with?"
George: "Yesterday we played with each other's balls. Are we going to play with our friend's balls today?
Bungle: "Yes, and we can play with our twangers as well."
Geoffrey (to camera) "Have you seen Bungles twanger?"
Zippy: "Oh I have, I showed him how to pluck with it."
Bungle: "It's my plucking instrument."
(Geoffrey asks the audience if they can pluck like Bungle)
Zippy: "I can, I'm the best plucker here."
George;" And I'm good at banging. My peg's hard, isn't it Zippy?
Zippy: "Well of course it is, Your peg wouldn't go in if it was soft."
Geoffrey; "Let's get back to Bungle's twanger."
Bungle (excited) "Oooooh Geoffrey, we could all play with our twangers, couldn't we? Let's play the plucking song. Rod and Roger can get their instruments out and Jane has got two lovely Maracas."
(Singers Rod, Freddy and Jane enter)
Freddy: "We could hear you all banging away!"
Rod: "Banging can be fun!"
Jane: "Ooooh yes! And I was banging away all last night with Rod and Freddy."
Freddy ( looking sad ) "Yes, but it broke my plucking instrument."
Rod ( to Jane ) "Do you want to blow on my pipe while I'm twanging away?"
Jane: "Oh no, I was banging away with Freddy last night. But would you ike to play with my maracas?
Zippy; "No, let's just pluck away with our twangers."
George: "Yes, it doesn't matter what size our twanger is."
Zippy: "I've got a big red one."
George: "I've only got a tiny twanger. But it works well and I like to play with it."
Geoffrey (to viewers) "Well, have you got your twangers out? And remember, you can bang your balls at the same time. If you haven't got any, ask a friend if you can play with his. Now,let's all play the plucking song."
Everyone in studio: " Pluck, pluck, pluck along, we're going to pluck all
day."
I once saw a DVD of the show "Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men" who had a best friend called "Weed". It's not as suggestive, but it's plenty odd...
Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men
I wish I grew up in England.
I am amused and disturbed by that episode, at the same time...
I did a quick Google search for the Dick & Dom show.
After visiting its website, what can one say?

This doesn't sound any more risque than some of the stuff that used to be on Pee Wee's Playhouse (Didn't he "marry" a little boy once on the show?).
And does anybody remember when Mario Cantone used to host this syndicated kids' show called Steampipe Alley back in the late 80s/early 90s? It was his first claim to fame and developed something of a following among adults (especially gay men) at the time. It was just Mario with a studio full of 8 year olds and he ran around like he was on crack for an hour, improvising wildly with the kids, doing Bette Davis and Barbara Stanwyck impressions and throwing out so much filthy double entendre (that, of course, went flying over the kids' heads) that I remember being amazed at how much they let him get away with.

And then there's the old riddle:
What do Soon-Yi Previn and a 13-year-old boy have in common?
They both wake up with a little Woody every morning.
Mario Cantone and 8 year-olds. Who's brilliant idea was that? I'm just not a big fan of sexual innuendos around children. It's like those people who wear t-shirts with expletives or graphic sexual images to theme parks. It's just trashy and rude.

Can you get splinters from morning wood?

The only thing better than waking up with morning wood is waking up with morning wood and someone taking care of it for you.
If I see a pair of perky maracas, I want to pluck my twanger... But the problem is not the T-Shirt, it's the repressed culture. I don't believe in pushing adult topics on our children, but we can't keep them locked away from it forever. Unless you're RightSaidRick.

[hit the space bar to wake up the green, toilet dwelling, c*ck. But don't hit the space bar when you're sitting on the toilet. Unless you're into that kind of thing.]

I Shawn of the Dead, Shawn's best friend wears a t-shirt that says "I've got wood" too funny.
Yes Margo... Steampipe Alley with Mario Cantone... I remember it well. My friends and I used to make a point of watching it every Sunday morning. And we were all in our mid-twenties at the time! It was so camp! We loved it! And talk about a title with a double entendre! I mean really... If Steampipe Alley doesn't sound like the lastest release from Titan, I don't know what does!

Glad I'm not the only one who remembers it, CurtainUp2 -- such a funny show.
I remember it... (An argument that children don't necessarily "get" everything) I had NO idea that there was any entendre at all. In hindsight, it screams.
