Posted: 11/19/12 at 6:13pmI hear people being referred to as "mouth breathers" and it's always in a derogatory fashion. Can someone tell me why it is bad to be a mouth breather?

I went right to the source, urban dictionary, and this is what I got. When I searched mouth breathing.
A person of inferior intellect that lacks the faculties to recognize he is breathing heavily through his drooping open mouth; one who watches Fox News and Nascar with religious zeal.

Posted: 11/19/12 at 7:14pmJane, I'm not saying you look like that, and no one blames you for it. I find myself doing it recently too, but I've got a cold that won't go away.

I've been mouth breathing since birth, lol. The earliest pictures of me at three years old, show the handkerchief my mother always attached to my dress with a safety pin, I had so many allergies.

Jane's got nicer hair!
JK. I have to breathe through my mouth also because of sinus problems. If I breated out of my nose it would be quite loud!

It does not refer to just anyone who has to breathe though their mouths. It's more about the attitude of the person breathing.
It refers to really stupid people.

Posted: 11/19/12 at 10:05pmIt's just an expression about somebody's stupidity. 'Mouth-breather' as in not realizing you can do it through your nose, I guess.
