A few months ago we were watching a biography of Poe in english class (one that I'd seen before, I believe) and a thought came to mind - his life would make a wonderful biopic! Tim Burton, anyone? Anyway, am I an original, or has it been done already?
Jam_man, it was announced earlier this year that Sylvester Stallone is writing/directing a movie about Poe...I've not read anything recently, but at the time he mentioned Robert Downey, Jr as his choice for the lead (I read an interview years ago with Stallone where he talked about playing Poe himself, but I guess he thought better of it).
Incidentally, a few years back, it was reported that Michael Jackson(!) would be playing Poe in an independent film, but apparently nothing ever came of it (the reports may not have even been true, but I remember reading it in several places).

Poe would be hard to make into a likable character but who cares? Whoever said characters had to be likable?

About ten years ago, John Astin toured in a one man show about Poe. He really looked like him!
There's a mediocre play called "Poe's Midnight Dreary" in which Poe is slipping in and out of consciousness at the end of his life and has dreams of being IN his own stories...I did it in high school.....
