A female friend of mine approached a recent film festival with a request to put on a late night showing of "Can't stop the music" and they told her that she would have to write an essay on it's social and cultural impact. After toying with the idea that the film was, in fact, a musical celebration of MAN, we came up with the idea of musicals directed by women, but could only come up with "CSTM" and "Starstruck" by Gillian Armstrong, both of which would make for a fantastic evening. Are there any others?

If I'd started with "Can't stop the music" I thought "well directed was kind of irrelevant. Entertaining is the main thing. Thanks for those-I didn't even think of Barbra.

And "Starstruck" is fantastic. I aspire to make my life like that movie.

See, I see the Producers as well directed.
Just, directed as a musical and not as a movie/
In any event, its a great movie for theatre people...not the average movie goer.
Didn't Kathleen Marshall direct Once Upon a Mattress?
Yup and Julie Taymor has an upcoming musical...a sort of jukebox movie musical of Beatles songs.
