Everyone hated Eyes Wide Shut for various reasons (It's glacial pacing, its absence of sex, its surrealist vision of New York, etc.), but I continue to be on of the foremost champions of it. It's a brilliantly woven final work by a master artist who I consider to be the greatest film director of all time. The moment where Tom Cruise goes to the orgy is one of the most hypnotically chilling moments of any film I've ever seen, and the movie gets more interesting once you probe deeper into the nature of that orgy and the meaning of the title. Take everything into account: The dreams, The costume shopowner's change of heart, Sydney Pollack's monologue at the end, everything. Watch it again and again and again until you solve the mystery. You know you want to.
When I was a kid I seemed to like "Howard the Duck" and everyone else hated it. I haven't seen it in a loooonnnnggg time, though.
Invaders from Mars, both the 1953 original, and the 1986 one with Louise Fletcher and Karen.
Well, not HATES, but I thought CINDERELLA MAN was amazing - as did most critics - but voters and people on this board seem to think otherwise.
I can give you a good one-Dune.

OVERBOARD, with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. Every movie critic I've ever seen rated it a bomb or a turkey - but it makes me laugh til I cry every time I watch it.
Love OVERBOARD too!
EVITA - paid to see it in the theatre nine times.

LOVE OVERBOARD!
Broadway: MOst people loved LEGALLLY BLONDE, THE VIRGIN SUICIDES, THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE, UNFAITHFUL, SPIDERMAN 2, and DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, no?
And THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE '04...you're right on that one! I thought it was one of the worst things I'd ever seen!
A Knight's Tale
RENT
Phantom of the Opera
I'm sure there's more...
But...right on with THE RULES OF ATTRACTION - it's one of my favorite movies.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Other than the weird tangent with the pirates, I thought the movie had some great stuff but most everyone else thought it was a dud.
I thought it was one of the worst things I'd ever seen!
Couldn't resist, could you?
Are you serious? One of the worst things you've ever seen? I hate to disagree with you, but I thought it was great. What did you think of the original? It's one of my favorites.

Ehhh, I guess so. I'm using this board's thoughts on the films, more or less.
Popa-
I loved The Life Aquatic.

For some reason I have just totally opposite tastes of everybody else. I would say that my top favorite movies that everybody hates are: Citizen Kane, Wizard of Oz, Taxi Driver, Angels in America, LA Tool & Die, The Magnificent Ambersons, and Duck Soup.
Meanwhile, the rest of America flocks to the Guy Ritchie Swept Away.

OK, you have shamed me into admitting a part of my top list
Gone With The Wind
Wuthering Heights
A Streetcar Named Desire
The Phantom of the Opera
The Wizard of Oz
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
There's No Business Like Show Business
The Longest Day
Cleopatra (Taylor-Button-Harrison)
Notorious
Who hates The Wizard of Oz and Taxi Driver? I'll knock 'em out...

I'd find this easier to answer if it were the other way around--movies that everyone else loves but you don't. Included on that list for me would be Requiem for a Dream and any Wes Anderson movie. I don't know what's wrong with me, since most people whose taste in movies I admire seem to love these.
Movies that I love that everyone else hates... hmm... any goofy Adam Sandler movie (especially Happy Gilmore).... I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now.

It kind of makes me itch seeing THE WIZARD OF OZ and CLEOPATRA on the same list, no matter the reason.

Was it Dick Button or Red Button that Liz remade Cleopatra with? And how was that version?
