how many other actors/actresses got their start from famous movies and TV?
Pretty much all of them? It's not like any of these people mentioned hit it big on their first gig.

RadiGal: Oh, the soap ones are great... I used to watch Julianne Moore, Meg Ryan, and Marisa Tomei on "As The World Turns." (That one churned 'em out, didn't it???)

erikamato: It's so funny how they like to neglect that part of that resume. I consider it my moral duty to refresh their memories. I actually only watched GH so those are the only two that I can recall truly launching into the big time.

Mr Roxy: Cybil Sheppard was a big star long before 'Moonlighting', that was more of a comeback vehicle for her.
As a 'One Life to Live' fan, Ryan Phillipe, Marcia Cross and Laurence Fishburne all started on my soap. Well, Marcia really started on "Edge of Night", where I believe she played a character named Beth, who had a sister named Elizabeth, and that always bugged me to no end.

Well, I'd argue that Courteney Cox got her "start" long before she was on Friends. That was certainly the pinnacle of her career thus far, but she had Family Ties and that Bruce Springsteen video long before Friends.
