According to his obit, he hasn't been reminding us for over 20 years.
(And even when he was reminding us, did anyone listen?)

Posted: 11/19/07 at 2:45pmOf course not! Those damned toilet paper fetishists always had to come in and put their greasy, perverted hands all over the damned Charmin...the Rolls Royce of toilet papers.

Sorry. This clause made me giggle:
said his daughter Melanie Wilson, who is known for her role as a flight attendant on the ABC sitcom "Perfect Strangers."
So well-known that the writer couldn't even refer to the character by name?
I, too, thought he already died, but I was probably thinking of the "time to make the donuts" guy.
#9re: Mr. Whipple has died
Posted: 11/19/07 at 3:09pmIt's understandable, Calvin. After all, donuts and rolls of toilet paper are shaped the same. And people do love to squeeze the donuts. So to speak.

There was a flight attendant on Perfect Strangers? I'm guessing a one-off.
Known within her family perhaps.

Actually, Rath, she was on almost the entire series. She played a girlfriend and eventual wife to one of the guys.
Please note: I looked this up just now. Really. I didn't actually used to watch "Perfect Strangers." I promise.

I saw an interview with him YEARS ago. The interviewer was a bit of a snob and asked him - in a condesending tone - if he would be happy being remembered as the toilet paper guy?
He responded with something along the lines of
I get asked that question a lot. My work bought me a great home, funded my retirement and put two kids through college. It also made some people chuckle ... yeah, I'm pretty good with that.
I hope heaven is full of soft squeezable toilet paper!

I also remember Dick Wilson from many, many television programs of my youth. He was a wonderful character actor, and I have a special place in my heart for character actors.

"There was a flight attendant on Perfect Strangers? I'm guessing a one-off."
According to IMDB the character's name was Jennifer and she's listed as being a cast regular.
And per Wikipedia:
"Melanie Wilson (born Melina DiGuglielmo October 14, 1961) is an American actress best known for her co-starring role as Jennifer Lyons-Appleton in the ABC sitcom Perfect Strangers. Her other television credits include Family Matters, Step by Step, Simon & Simon and The A-Team.
She is the daughter of actor Dick Wilson, the former commercial spokesman for Charmin toilet paper."
