Thank you MrM, you wrote something somewhere earlier tonight that cracked me up, but I'm too Robitussined to recall it exactly.
It's just so funny how quickly people around here (who should KNOW BETTER) are ready to jump on something for not being "family show" material, it's like this board is run by Focus on the Family or something.

Posted: 5/20/05 at 11:57pmI didn't see this "Muppet Oz" movie, but I remember some of the old skits on the muppet Show were not "family friendly" and that was one of the greatest things about it. I seem to remember the muppets ripping off all the clothes of one of the guest hosts. Seriously though how many kids are going to be hurt by seeing a blue monsters nipples?

In response to the muppet show being revived and well it applies to even this..
A major difference I think between the muppets of old and muppets of news are cameos/human actors in them. Think about the guests they had on the Muppet Show-Ethel Merman, Julie Andrews, Bernadette Peters, Joel Grey, Ben Vereen, Gene Kelly, and okay of course I have a special love for the Broadway ones but even great people in other areas--Elton John, the Star Wars actors, John Cleese, Linda Rondstadt, etc. People with amazing talent, some of which were known for so long.
When you look at the early muppet movies...Bob Hope, Steve Martin, the puppet guy who I can't remember, and oh you all know the names.
The humans they get to work with the muppets just aren't waht they used to be, and that's attributed to the times. While I think a muppet show would be great bringing on all the Broadway talent now, it just wouldn't work because almost no one on Broadway is well-known outside our community. And there just aren't great legends around anymore, so who do we get working with the muppets? Ashanti, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Simpson, I wouldn't be surprised to see Britney too...the muppets just don't work with them. And also in some of even the more recent movies(Christmas Carol, Treasure Island and now Wizard of Oz) the main characters have been humans, while in all past movies the muppets were the main characters with mostly cameos by humans, who were way more talented than people available today anyway. Okay rant over.
And well...I'm sure the death of Jim Henson, the disinvolvement of Frank Oz and lots of other veteran Muppet actors/writers, etc. also have contributed.

ummmm......are there seriously adults complaining on a message board about a MADE FOR CHILDREN puppet movie?
I really don't think they were gearing it for you're age group.

"But please, don't become the kind of adult who thinks an outfit warn by a pig puppet is too revealing "for the children!"....
^^I'm seriously considering using that as my signature. Too fvckin' funny!!!

What is this nipple business about?!
I thought it started at 9- I'm a loser who missed a whole hour.
#35re: Muppets Oz Blows
Posted: 5/21/05 at 10:39amit was just a very awkward moment... they find Gonzo (aka the Tin Thing), and he has all these bolts over his body, so the prawn (TOTO) points to two bolts on his costume and says - "What are those?" and Gonzo says "my nipples" - pause, pause, pause... nothing else - just hung there for eternity - it was iccky..

Oh wow, what on earth were the writers thinking?
I mean, I guess there is a subtle way to do inappropriateness (like Shrek- now that's a job well done. Don't you love innuendos?) and then just a completely wrong and stupid way.
Stupid Muppets. Stupid Gonzo.

Dear god. You idiots all have to grow the hell up. Clearly, like any kids show worth its salt, there were PLENTY of things in Muppet Wizard of Oz aimed at adults that would just fly over the heads of children. And CLEARLY, a joke like "somebody's gonna get witch-slapped" flew over the heads of all you Helen Lovejoys who gasped, covered your ears and yelled "What about THE CHILDREN?" because you THOUGHT they said bitch slapped. Which is what you all should be.
Kids LOVE jokes about farts and body parts and YES, nipples. But for those of you who are developmentally disabled and thought the joke "just hung there for eternity - it was iccky...," I hope you are able to bring this scarring experience to your therapy group next week and get some healing hugs.
The Muppet Wizard of Oz was very well executed, very clever. Piggy as Elflabba was HILARIOUS. The opening Kansas scene was absolutely GENIUS, better than ANYTHING you buttmunches would be able to come up with, with Dorothy fantasizing she's in a music video for the label "Dream On" records, singing "I Gotta Get Out of This Place."
It's just fantastic to know that there's already a new breed of adults gestating who will carry on the tradition of dismissing things because they aren't "appropriate" for theoretical children.
(And boob-lover CapnHook, your thinking the biker outfit for the wicked pig of the west PUPPET was "inappropriate" for children is the absolute CLINCHER for you being gay. And the reason you "won't grow up" is because you "won't face adult issues like sexuality. Good luck with all that, and please let us know how it all turns out. Watch the Michael Jackson trial coverage to see THE BAD side of denying your sexuality and "refusing to grow up.")
Compared to the craptastic Treasure Island they did a few years ago, this thing was frickin Citizen Kane. Not surprisingly, given exactly who the naysayers are in this thread, the show was a little too hip for the room.

"Ashanti has just inked a new deal with 20th Century Fox to star in a new comedy, "John Tucker Must Die" alongside "Desperate Housewives" cutie Jesse Metcalfe. Betty Thomas ("I Spy," "Dr. Doolitle," "28 Days") directs the film which begins shooting in Vancouver this Summer..."

FindingNamo, I really hope you aren't serious. You're telling everyone on here to lighten up? Sheesh, you seem a little high strung yourself.
They could have executed that nipple part in a better way. The inappropriateness factor comes in when the part is so isolated and meaningless. If you're going to have nipple jokes they really should be followed by some punch line or SOMETHING.
For the witch-slapped line- what did you expect people to hear? It's funny after the fact, but at the time, it was a pun gone wrong.
It was just ridiculous and the movie was disappointing. I really was looking forward to it and it was just blah.
Point of this post: calm down and show people's opinions some respect. You grow up.

I watched it and enjoyed it for what it was. A MUPPET MOVIE!! I HOWLED at the nipple scene (My partner laughed so hard he cried). It's that type off "off based" humor that made the Muppet Show so funny, years ago.
Also, they did say "Witch Slapped" during the fight scene, never was a bitch uttered, except from me every time Ashanti opened her mouth. Who ever thought of putting her in the role of Dorthy should be smacked. She brought nothing to the production. And whoever was in charge of that nasty thing they were passing off as a wig should also get a good Witch Slap. That thing was sliding all over her head worse than an amature in an ice show.
I'm also suprised that none of the Wicked fans noticed that Miss Piggy screamed, "Nessa!" when she was told that the trailer was dropped on her sister. Or the bill board in Munchkinland that read something to the tune of "Wicked (something something), Now On Tour".
And out of everyone who could have played the role of the Wizard, WHY Jeff Tambor? Did they just want him to be totally pathitic? He reeked almost as much as Ashanti.
Who else found it pathetic that Michael Eisner STILL managed to get his face on screen? We ALL KNOW he's being shoved out, and to try and STILL play the role of Walt Disney is almost laughable.
All in all, it was a fun watch, (I laughed my ass of at some of the stuff Toto was saying), but I wouldn't get the DVD, and I get everything on DVD.

I thought the nipple joke was funny! The Muppets have always had jokes for adults in their movies and tv shows.
I agree that casting Ashanti in this movie was a mistake, she's HORRIBLE!!!
I LOVED "TOTO" he's hilarious, just the way he talks is funny.
Overall it was okay, I've seen better ones.

You know what? I thought Miss Piggy said Nessa at some point in there, but I brushed it off b/c I didn't think it would go that far.
I love the Muppets.
