Yes, I can forgive people who are just mistaken; even stupid.

But people who deliberately say harmful things that they don't even believe--there's no excuse for them. That's evil, pure and simple.

And no matter how far he rolls back on it, let's not forget this gem -

"It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population," he said. "This deadly disease, for which there is no cure, is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents.

"If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague."

Not to mention his connection to the "kill the gays" stuff in Uganda.

Why is this so rampant, do you think?

I know negativity earns bucks and sells papers, but these are not the times to waste on polarized rhetoric. I'd rather hear, e.g. from the man who won an Oscar for 'Inside Job.'

So it's one of two things. Either:

1. ...if a girl gets "knocked up," she's "brave" to have the baby, but if an unmarried woman decides to have a child, she's "setting a bad example."

-or-

2. ...if a conservative has a child out of wedlock, it's "brave," but if a liberal has a child out of wedlock, she's either setting a bad example" or she's a "welfare mother."

Either way, Mike, I think the most apt description of such reasoning faculties would be somewhere between "Stupid Cracker" and "Buffoonish Blowhard."

re: the Star Wars career 'hit'. That's a two-way street. Natalie Portman did get a lot more famous because of those prequels and even if she suffered the wrath of bad George Lucas dialogue she was a lot more widely recognized. Revenge of The Sith was after Closer (and ROTS still some bad, bad dialogue). Her following film was V For Vendetta, and she was pretty much the face associated with the film, aside from the mask, which was a pretty solid box office and critical success.

Thanks Reg for supporting my point. Natalie didn't become famous because her name is Natalie Nichols! I meant that she made it on her own- not because of who her mother or father is. The fact that Nichols backed her is still very different than how Bristol Palin got famous.

Is this thing on? I said I wasn't comparing the two.

Natalie started when she was a kid, had the unwavering support of her parents. It seems to help to start when you're a kid.

I get that you don't want to be seen as comparing Natlie and Bristol, but I'm not sure what your point is. It seems to be something about Natalie's advantages. Or something. Which keeps seeming more on Huckabee's side, though I gather that's not your position.

Nothing I've read tells me that Bristol--uncritcized unwed mother--didn't have the unwavering support of her parents. So I'm still wondering why Huckabee never saw fit to slam her too.
