My high school has a ton of great girls (specifically, six or seven really talented seniors and a whole bunch of underclassmen) interested in doing this year's musical, but only like six guys, and only two of them can REALLY sing. Are there any musicals with a lot of roles for girls and not so many for guys? (Musicals we've done the past few years - The Pajama Game, Into the Woods, Chicago, Working, Little Shop.)
Any help would be amazing! Thanks! :)

Once On This Island
Thoroughly Modern Millie**SO much fun to perform, but you need two guys who can REALLYYYY sing for it to work
Millie sounds perfect for yous to be honest but then the two guys would have to be very good indeed.
My school had the exact same problem. We put on "Annie," and it was pretty successful. LOADS of girl roles-- orphans and hobos and etcetera. There are two major guy roles, Warbucks (who should have a good voice, but singing is not the main focus of his role) and Rooster (who should be able to carry a tune, but sings in a character voice.) There are some smaller guy roles, like Roosevelt, who doesn't need to have an outstanding voice, but the biggest problem with Annie is Roosevelt's cabinet. Granted, you can make a lot of these girls if need be. Mr. Bundles should be a guy, but he doesn't have to sing. And any cops or servants can just as easily be girls.
Little Women has a good number of female roles, but the cast itself is pretty small.
My first thoughts were "Cinderella", "Fiddler on the Roof", and "Once Upon a Mattress".

But you need more men than women to do Fiddler.
One show with a lot of female roles is "Honk." It has lots of male roles, but almost all of the male parts can be played by girls, because all of the characters are animals. I've done the show twice, and both times, we only had four or five guys. It's also a good show for character voices, so the guys don't all need to sound pretty.
"Honk" requires a really large cast, though.
Once Upon A Mattress is a good show, too, especially since that's another one where some of the male parts can be played by women.

HONK can be done with a cast of 12 (most playing multiple roles). That's how it is done in professioal theatres. 4 men, 4 women, 2 little boys, 2 little girls.
Ah! Whoops, sorry about that. I've done the show twice and seen it three times, but every time, it was a large bunch of teenagers, all of whom wanted as big a role as possible. I never HAVE seen it professionally.

My school had to have teachers go on for guys one year! Now, it's a different story. But next year, there will only be 4 (including me) serious guy actors and like 30 serious girl actresses!
I hate you, dude. Much as I love being a girl, sometimes I wish I was a guy solely to get good parts. Ever noticed that all the best parts are written for guys? Not that I'm bitter that I can never play Sir Percy Blakeney or Chauvelin... or Fagin... or Thenardier or Enjolras or Marius or Valjean or Javert... or Count Fosco... or King Triton... or Gaston or the Beast or Lumiere...or Sweeney Todd... or Tevye...or The Rum Tum Tugger... okay, NOW I'm bitter. ^_^
Smile is a good one - five or six male roles, and only Big Bob and Ted really sing - but a ton of great female parts. It's an ideal high school show.
Dessa Rose!! You need a cast of mostly african american women though...
I recommend owning the cast recording.
