Amneris, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Our family has also gone through the same pain. Our 14 year old Cocker Spaniel "Bags"
died the day before Thanksgiving two years ago. Time will help ease the pain, but memories are the best. Evertime we see a pari-colored cocker, we have to say hello and wonder if this is some relative of Bags.
Hold on to your memories they are truely priceless. Hugs and good thoughts are with you today.

To all who have lost their dear animal friends, I wish you healing and love, I lost one of my closest "friends" a few years ago and I still feel the loss, but am so lucky to have had the chance to know them and be touched by my boy, Cecil.

I will think good thoughts for the memory of Dreyfus.

That's so sad. I really feel for you, Amneris. When I was a teen, we had to make the choice to euthanize our family dog becasue she was old, very ill, unable to walk and was suffering. It was a terible ordeal. We had her for many years and she was very much a part of the family.

Later on I had to have a pet cat euthanized when he was in advanced stages of lukemia.
I now have a dog that just turned 14 and is not feeling well lately. I dread the day he is gone which I know is inevitable.

It's always a terrible loss and very difficult to deal with. Try to console yourself with the fact that you will always have the memories of this wonderful pet and that any suffering he was experiencing is over. That sounds sort of lame right now when you're in the midst of grief but, the pain and loss does go away eventually.

Remember Dreyfus had an amasingly long and loving life! Pity our four legged friends who do not!

Best therapy....adopt another pet and shower him/her with love. It'll do you both a heap of good. Once and animal lover, always an animal lover.

Oh Amneris...I am sooooooooooooooooooo sorry. My dog was diagnosed with arthritis in his left hip yesterday...and although arthritis isn't a death sentence it just reminds me that he is getting older and won't be around forever. I feel the same way about him that you did about your dog. I hope that you find comfort in the happy memories.

amneris - oh i will never forget Dreyfus and the fun memories of him. From first meeting him he was just such a precious dog and so well behaved. I just loved that he just wanted to cuddle and play. I am soo sorry and send my love to your fam cuz I knew he was the 3rd child.

It breaks my heart that animals use the last bit of energy they have to crawl into a dark place. My cat recently passed away and it was very difficult. I know exactly how you feel...my prayers are with you.

The pain really will slowly go away even though it doesn't feel like that could even be possible now. Don't let anyone try to minimize you hurt. If they haven't loved an animal as a member of the family it's their loss.
My daughter leaves on Wednesday for a semester in London and I keep praying that nothing will happen to either of our cats. She would beat herself up about being gone-especially our 11 year-old that she adopted when she was 9.
I also recommend the Rainbow Bridge site. It's a good way to cry and be comforted at the same time.
Don't be afraid to let yourself love another animal. It really is worth it. Dreyfus is very lucky to have been so loved.

I just wanted to say that I am very sorry for you and the loss of your dog, Dreyfus. I went through this a while back with a cat I'd had for over 10 years. What joys pets bring us, some cannot understand. The loss is real, I know that. If it's any comfort, I do believe that God exists, and despite what some may believe, I also believe that He has a big "back yard" where, one day, we'll all see and be with those loved ones we've lost that we call pets.

He was a DOG! Get over it!
