I've lost all my cast recordings and soundtracks!
I don't own any more hard copies...I went completely digital when I moved back to NYC...I downloaded all the CD's onto my laptop and transferred them to an external and donated all the physical CD's to my local library...and I was in the process of purchasing an extra hard drive to back everything up...and now this happens!
Very sad night for me indeed.
I can't even begin to try to replace all of it.
Oh well, life goes on...
Did you buy any through iTunes and have an iPod? At least those are salvageable.
Is all your porn in there as well? That would be very sad.
I didn't want to publicize that...but that would be a yes DAME.
@Marianne2: Only a handful via iTunes...so yes those remain..the rest are history. Thinking of taking the drive to a Data Retrieval service...
Honey you sure you cant save it? I thought my external had died last year and all it needed was a new power cord.
I'm going to take it to a data retrieval service...I tried another USB cable but no dice...
I'm going to have to get my fix via Pandora, Spotify and BWW Radio...I also lost entire artist discographies...I want to hit something...
Luckily some stuff was still on my laptop...so those remain...

La Cie Drive?

I wish this was a gif, but alas, it's not.
LOL @ JungleRed!! Thanks for that!
Yep. Get a different cord. Just try it. Humor me.
I tried another USB cable already...no dice
The laptop is reading the drive as Local Disk (F:) and not My Passport (F:) and when I double click on the icon it is requesting me to format the drive.

I think your ****ed. There is something to figure out. I bet your stuff is still in there.
I'm going to see if I take it to a data retrieval service...maybe they can retrieve the files...it may cost me but certainly not as much as it would to replace everything I have in it. It's worth a shot.

Thank you Pal Joey for the link! I was kind of hesitant to take it to a data retrieval service considering what is on it...my external hard drive is very gay!

Unless you have something illegal on your hard drive there is very little left that can shock an experienced technician. They've seen it all by this point, as porn downloads and the various trojans, malware, spyware, and other assorted viruses that often come with them are one of the top reasons people have to take their computers in for repair.

Have you tried hooking it up to another computer/laptop? I have an external HD that (I thought) died on me, but then I hooked it up to my school's Apple laptop and there was everything. I was then able to transfer most of the content from one external HD to another by hooking it up to the school's laptop. Worth a shot.
Thanks for the tips and leads guys. I am taking each and every one into consideration. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the data is salvageable.

Just to clarify, it may have been that I hooked the HD up to an APPLE product as opposed to a PC. My desktop and laptop (personal) are both PCs. When I tried accessing the data on the HD with any PC type computer it failed. It was only when I hooked the HD to an APPLE machine that I was able to access and save the data (though for some reason, much of the data was mislabeled. My SpRING AWAKENING recordings were labeled as (let's say) SHREK etc. I was able to rename the stuff of course, and it was tedious, but it was better than losing all that data.
You inspired me to do another back up of my Michael Brandon collection.
