My LSAT score is in! I want to holler from mountaintops!

Sorry for this self-indulgent thread, but I just received my LSAT results via email, and I scored a 163 !!! That puts me in the 89th percentile!

What joy, and surprise -- I thought I'd get between 155-158. It was such a horrid experience; I did not expect to do so well, so I thought I'd pursue grad work in English instead. Now I have to decide whether law school is right for me. Still, this opens up my options!

I'm still undecided, though -- I've been preparing for grad studies in Renaissance Drama for the last few weeks because I didn't anticipate that law school would actually be a possibility.

That's awesome! I don't know much about the LSAT, but my friend told me that if you get above a 160 your odds of getting into law schools improves by leaps and bounds. Congratulations!

Good question....(and unfortunately, in Canada, we receive an LLB rather than a JD, although it can still be used to practice law in NY state and California.)

I know so many people who want to go to law school and do end up going, despite being passionate about other career paths. You would think getting work as a lawyer would be as competitive as getting work as a magazine editor.

Yeah, that's why I'm going to take some time to make a decision. I've met more than a handful of people who found law school to be a completely dissatisfying experience.

One of my sisters is making 125K per year as a lawyer on Park Avenue and dislikes it. (In that sentence are two pros and one con for being a lawyer.)

See, that would be my exact problem were I to be a lawyer. All the nice-paying jobs are for corporations or law firms that work for corporations, which just isn't my thing. But working for a nonprofit or government really isn't the way to pay back those student loans, is it?
