The dog I grew up with had to be put down this afternoon. My dad just called and told me. He's been in our family since I was 11. I didn't even get to say goodbye...I could use a smile or a hug right about now. He was a really good dog and will be remembered fondly.
My thoughts are with you, it is very tough to lose a pet.
a great big HUG from someone who's been there.

I am so sorry. I lost my dog that I had had since I was 6 when I was 18. I was in college so I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to her either. I came home from school and when she didn't come running to see me I asked where she was. It was not a very pleasant 18th birthday to say the least.
*hugs* If you need to talk PM me.
Miss Elphie I am so very sorry. It is so hard to lose a beloved pet. My thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with you tonight.
So sorry MissElphie.
My heart aches each day when I leave my baby to go to work.
I can only imagine your feelings of loss.
I hope your heart mends real soon.

My deepest condolences. Our family's 8-year-old black lab died two years ago, while I was vacationing in SoCal. She was very much a member of the family. To this day, we miss her something fierce. I don't have anything wise to add, except to remember the good times.
I had to put down my first (and only) dog.
And then do a performance that night.
Not a good day.
I feel you pain and you have my deepest sympathies.
Oh my gosh I am soo sorry. You have so much Sympathy from me. I can't imagine what you could be going through, i ddon't even want to think about what it would be like if my cat died.
Post a picture, MissE. It might make you feel a little better.

Went thru it twice so my heart goes out to you as I know what you are going thru
My heart goes out to you at this most painful time.
I'm sorry sweetie.
This is a picture of Gorby. He was a mix of a beagle and a Jack Russell.
Thank you everyone. It's weird because I knew it was coming (he was getting very old), but it is still very sad. It's really like losing a family member.
As for stories, he was such a good, loyal dog that there are so many. I guess the one that makes me smile most was when he was younger. He learned how to roll a soccer ball with his legs and his snout. He was so smart. You could pretty much have an entire soccer game with him. It was also pretty cool to see.
He was also very intuitive. He knew when you were down. If you were upset about anything, Gorby would be right beside you either licking your face or with his head in your lap - whichever he thought best suited the situation.
Thank you all for your kind words and sympathy. It does help.
He is going to be missed. A lot. But he had a very good and a very long life.

I had to have my Casey put down 2 years ago, and there's not a day that goes by I don't have a thought for him (I keep a pic of him with my mom (she's passed away too) on my desk. Two of my favorite people....
Remember all the good memories, and relish the thought you had a wonderful companion for all these years.
Elphie, so sorry to hear this...I had to put my furry friend of 17yrs down in June...I know how you feel.
