I know it's a little late for ghost stories, but I just wanted to share this with everyone.
I was living in Edinburgh, Scotland, from May until September. It is reputed to be the most haunted place in the world, and I heard this story while I was on a ghost tour. Never has a ghost story chilled me like this one. Enjoy...
------------------------------
There once was an elderly couple named Katelynn and Norman. They owned a rather big home called 'The Gate'. The house once belonged to a crazy, mean-spirited old man that no one liked. One day, the old man disappeared and was never heard from again.
As the couple got older they decided to earn money by renting out their rooms to people. They did, and were impressively successful. One weekend, in fact, the house was completely full. It was raining, and a young man came in and asked for a room. The couple told him that they were completely out of space. He said that he would be willing to sleep anywhere, even if it meant spending the night in the attic. The couple realized that the attic had never been slept in before, and told him that they didn't think it would suit him. He insisted, and payed them extra. So, they gave him the room.
During the middle of the night, the couple heard a loud scream coming from the attic. They rushed up, only to find the young man sitting in a chair, dead. On his face, was an expression of complete horror. The sweat on his face was still warm. Katie and Norman were anxious to find out what happened, and called an exorcist to observe, just in case something supernatural should be haunting the attic space.
The following night, the exorcist arrived. He told them that he would spend the night in the attic and, if the occasion should call for it, perform one of the following actions:
1) If he felt nervous or afraid in any way, he would stamp his feet on the floor.
or
2) If he felt that he was being attacked, or felt that his life was in danger, he would ring a bell.
During the night, the couple awoke, once again. But this time, it was to the sound of a bell ringing wildly. They rushed up the stairs, only to find the exorcist laying on the floor. Just as with the young man, the expression on his face could best be described as ghastly. But there was one thing that puzzled the couple even further: The bell that had woke them up was sitting neatly on a dresser at the other side of the room...

The bell indicating that the exorcist was in trouble rang, but his would-be rescuers found it on the opposite side of the room from his corpse.Ergo, since he couldn't have rung it, the evil old ghost must have.
OOOOO!VERY SCARY!
