My friend is really obsessed with her body. She is 5'0 and weighs 104 pounds and wears a size 0, and sometimes even a kids size 12. The other day we were shopping and she went into The childrens place and got a pleated skirt in a kids 12 and black yoga like pants also 12. She is completely obsessed. I always tell her she so thin, but maybe I am biassed because I'm her best friend. But to you guys, how is 5'2 and 104 pounds. Thanks, I really wanna help, I'm getting worried.
Okay, thank you so much. I knew I wasn;t biassed, and she always complains about how ahe looks!!!!
Yeah I have to agree, that is very thin. But, I have a friend who is 15 and is 92 pounds. But she has a liver problem and a fast metabolism, and she eats just as much as I do.. and i am....ahrm.. 240 LOL so yeah, there could be something wrong with her that could mean that she can't gain weight.
My friend fortunatley has nothing wrong with her, it's just I want to make sure she doesn't develop an eating disorder.
Sorry- I wrote 5'2, she is actually 5'0. Is that still very thin?
I'm 5'0" too and I think 104 isn't extremely underweight. It depends on her build but I'm most comfortable at around 110 or at 115 the most.
That's still very thin. I'm 14 and 4'11 and I weigh a lot more than that.
When I was younger, I was like that. I was 4'11" and only something like 75 pounds - really tiny - and this was in junior high school. My parents took me to all sorts of nutritionists and dietitians and whatnot, and they all tried to scare me into "eating better" or something. I've never had an eating disorder or anything remotely like it, but I just never really ate a lot as a kid. My parents used to worry that I wasn't eating enough, and my mom's favorite doctor would tell her that if I was hungry, I would eat, and not to worry. (Granted, now, I'm always hungry. heh.)
Anyway, that's sort of irrelevant, but brings me to this part, that is - when I was in my first few years of high school, and finally at a more "normal" weight, my doctor showed me a chart he had that matched up height with an "acceptable" weight range, that could semi-accurately predict how tall you'd be, if you followed the same growth curve. I'm just under 5'2" which was about as tall as I was ever expected to be anyway, but judging from this chart, I was always told that for my height, I would probably not want to be much more than 125 pounds or so. This was when I was... fifteen, I think.
I'm nineteen now, and as tall as I'm going to get - about the same height as your friend, and I'm about 115 pounds. I'm certainly not all that much of a twig, and I don't think people would look at me and go "oh, geez, she's so skinny," (and certain people on this board will go on to discuss the weight held in the erm... chest... area, but I digress).
Anyway, surely your friend is probably thin, but she's also small height-wise. If you don't suspect a disorder, perhaps she's just skinny, and has a fast metabolism.
she has a small build. I'm just getting concerned. its become an obsession.
Well, what exactly has become an obsession? How much she weighs? What size clothes she can or will fit into? What/how much she eats? How she physically looks?
It does depend on her build...I'm 5'1" and I was 106 for a while, but now I'm more like 112. I was never unhealthily skinny, though.
If she's not eating like a normal human being, and she's really obsessing about simply her weight or the way she looks, you're right to be concerned because 104 may not be terribly unhealthy, but it is very skinny. But, if she's eating healthily and she's just very active, I think it should be okay.
When I say obsessed, I mean she weighs herself everyday, she picks at her food, she is upset if the kids 10 doesn't fit her, she just is getting a little nuts. She thinks her stomach is too flabby and its so flat. I just wanna watch out for her.
Well, now that you said that, I think you might have reason to be slightly concerned.
I agree. That's a bit much.
I know, thats why I was looking for some opinions, especially on her weight.

She is lucky to have a friend that cares so much about her. I wouldn't be so concerned about exact numbers and sizes here. I would be more concerned about her obcession with her body. She could have an eating disorder or body image issue. I hope she can learn to be at peace with what she has within her body.
Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate it!
perhaps your friend should consult her doctor?
I've told her that, but she won't listen.
