There, now I have it right. LOL! I could have sworn I was in the off topic area posting this originally. Oh well.
I decided to share about it because it was really fun, but also crazy.
Originally, I had just planned to stay over Thursday into Friday for the shows I saw. However, Monday I ended up scheduling a job interview that had to either be on Tuesday or Wednesday. So I chose to go in on Wednesday for that. I took a train into Hoboken to catch a PATH train to 14th street, where I needed to be. There is nothing really too interesting about Wednesday. I have no idea if I got the job or not yet, so we shall see. Now, coming home from this interview was interesting.
I was waiting at the platform for the train to come. Turns out, it was going up to 33rd street, so I hopped on anyway, thinking it was going to bring me back to Hoboken. No, instead I was on the one that takes you from Journal Square to 33rd street. So I ended up catching one going back to the Pavonia/Newport stop to transfer to the one going to Hoboken from there. That was my wonderful adventure for Wednesday. I didn't stay in the city that night because I had only booked a place for Thursday night and needed to go home and pack anyway.
So, Thursday comes. I took the bus in this time because everything I was going to was near the Times Square area. That had be the oddest public transportation rides ever. I got on as the first stop, and expected it to get full as we got closer to the city. Not the case at all. In total, there were only 7 of us on the bus at one time, and only 4 of us going to the city. Never in my life have I been on an empty bus like that, but it was great. Unfortunately, we got stuck for 30 minutes for the Lincon Tunnel. Actually, I saw some fire trucks out by the road in North Bergen, so I think that might have been one hold up. But definitely it took too long going through the tunnel, but that is no shock at all for me.
The hostel I stayed at was amazing! It is on 9th ave. between 42nd and 41st streets. It was really small, but there were only 4 people to a room. The guys who own it couldn't be nicer either. They give you a set of keys for your room, the hostel itself, and the building, so it was pretty secure. They also offer free internet service and include a couple of laptops in the main room for you to use. They also have a fridge with soda and water in it that you can take, but you have to pay 50 cents for each one. But that is still not a bad deal. The place was also extremely quiet. I didn't know such a place existed in the city.
The funny thing about staying there was never seeing the people I shared a room with. I'm dead serious. By the time I got there, the people there before me were out. And then I went out until almost 2am, and everyone was sleeping. I also got up by 5:45am to go to Bryant Park on Friday. So yeah, I know they were there, but I never met any of them because I left before any of them were around on Friday.
I already talked about "In the Heights" and "Don't Quit Your Night Job" in other posts, so I will not go into all of those details again. However, both shows are totally amazing! If you haven't seen "In the Heights" yet, I totally recommend it. No words can describe how amazing it is. I actually went back to Virgin Records to buy the cast album and have been listening to it for 3 days now.
Just a funny thing I noticed people watching on Thursday evening. Yes, I do this sometimes. I went to Virgin Records for the first time that evening to kill time before "In the Heights." I was just walking around and got to the magazine section. There were these 2 women, who were conservatively dressed, and they were not speaking english. What were they looking at? A Playboy magazine. Well, the college girls issue or something because it wasn't wrapped in plastic. I don't know, I found it kind of funny, but then I also do realize if they were not from this country, that culture is different. Like some of us would be offended by a magazine like that, but for them, it isn't a big deal. And no, I am not making fun of these women at all. You know, you just see people sometimes and what they are doing just facinates you, or you think is odd.
So, getting on with my trip, Friday I went to Bryant Part for "Good Morning America's" Summer Concert Series. This past Friday, Maroon 5 was there. I am a fan, so that's why I decided to go. I got to the park around 6:20am, and that's when I decided I was probably better off camping out there overnight because the line to get in was already around the block. I have no idea what time the front row people showed up, but I can only imagine.
The show was actually fun, minus the waiting part. Maroon 5 did not come out until almost 8am for their sound check. They played 3 songs, and then went off stage. We had to wait again until after 8:30 to hear them actually play on the show. Of course, they played the exact songs that we heard in the sound check, so it was a little disappointing in that sense. I'm just glad I got to see Maroon 5 live. However, I don't think I will do this part of my trip again, unless someone really really important happens to be on the show. It also would really not be worth my time to come in from where I live just for this. I would need another overnight or day trip for it to be worth it.
After I left Bryant Park, I walked up to 53rd and Broadway for breakfast as Maison. Let me say, the place is cute, but the food was just okay. Maybe it was because I was there at breakfast, but it wasn't great. They also charge $4.25 for a glass of juice. My food only cost me like $7. So I really don't recommend this place for breakfast food. I also may just have been so tired from walking from Bryant Park to there and getting about 3 hours of sleep. I've sort of noticed I don't do well on food for part of the day after I've gotten practically no sleep traveling. It's weird. I'm fine though when I don't have food.
After that, I walked around a bit more in the Times Square area. Then I checked out of the hostel and had to catch the bus home. And this time the bus was full. It took the bus driver 2 hours and 15 minutes to get back to the park and ride I had my car at because of all the stops in Parsippany. All in all, it was a really fun trip. I would definitely do it again. And if anyone wants more info on the hostel I stayed at, PM me.
