Put THAT in Glenn Beck's pipe and smoke it.
My friend just posted a bunch of pictures on his facebook....looks like an amazing turnout!
Gaga speaks and the crowd goes nuts. lol
I love how Lady Gaga has her own soapbox to stand on. And thank goodness, because the mic is covering the faces of most of the speakers!

The F-bomb gets dropped and C-Span suddenly puts up the "This program may contain offensive language" sign.
Not caring for this Billie Myers woman. How lovely to drop the "F" bomb and declare that she didn't like our President's speech last night. She could have just kept her mouth shut and let Dave Koz play the song.
Someone earlier called things bull****. Lovely.
That was my thought. I just don't want someone turning on C-Span and seeing, "Gay Equality March," and hearing a British woman screaming at the president and saying that her sexuality, of which she's effing proud, is more important that her nationality. I am too cynical, I guess. I wanted to be there, but I wonder if this will do any good at all.
It was a good turn out, but it seems like everyone waited for HAIR and then left. Maybe they left before that.
I didn't even see "HAIR". I turned it off. Too many speeches and when I turned it back on just to check in, there was a woman chastising the President for having gay & Lesbian families at the Easter Egg roll calling it a ticket to the back of the bus. So I guess the man is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
Anyone can get tickets to the Easter Egg Roll. You just have to buy a ticket.
I just got in from the march and rally. I left before Hair even performed as some of those speeches there were getting out of hand. There definitely were a couple of Debbie Downers mixed in. That being said, I really liked the empassioned speeches from Cynthia Nixon, Lady Gaga (believe it or not), the state representative from New York and Judy Shepherd. All in all, it was a wonderful march and rally. It exceeded my expectations. It was kind of like the gay pride parades I have attended, but much, much better. I'm curious to hear about the numbers of attendees, as the march just seemed to go on and on.
Ironically when the march began, a rainbow appeared in the sky. It was a perfect way to start the days proceedings.
Saw lots of familiar faces from NYC.
Was anyone able to catch the Hair performance? What did they perform?
No offense Stockard but if that is the case, then she shouldn't have even mentioned it. She made it sound like they were specifically "invited" by the President. And it is possible that they were. had they not been, then someone probably would have been upset about that.
Dottie, there were definetly a few Debbie Downers there. The one black guy who was screaming something about our patience having run out, etc. didn't impress me. It is my thought that the President wants to support the gay community but he wants to do it right. And he needs time to do that. I hope I am correct in my thoughts. JMO
I watched it on C-Span. It was "Let the Sun Shine In." It was good. I agree that some of the speeches did get a little out of hand. I get that it was a rally, but some were just a little on the obnoxious side with the yelling. And I do hope something was accomplished today.
Unc, I don't know why she mentioned it, that's why I said what I did. I lived in DC for my whole life and I know that anyone can buy tickets to the Easter Egg Roll.
Gotcha Stockard! :)
Seeing the BBC coverage this side of the Atlantic, I get the feeling this is an important time for gay rights in America. Dare I say, almost a 21st century "Stonewall".
President Obama's speech was high profile and passionate, even if without timescales, but it will register throughout your country I'm sure.
Here's a link to show you how it's reported over here. It may be a matter of interest for you.

uncageg, I left after the guy who was screaming the former ACT UP slogan. Actually a lot of people cleared out of there then. I turned the tv on when I got home and although the rally was still going on, it looked like everyone had left. There are only so many speeches people can hear before they start tuning out the message.
I agree Dottie. I had it on for a while but it just kind of got monotonous. I switched over to the Broncos' game. I was supposed to go out for the game but decided not to so I could catch the rally. Not really sorry that I didn't go but wish the rally had been better. JMO
uncageg, I think it is a matter of, "you had to be there". I really enjoyed myself immensely during the march and the first part of the speeches. After two hours though, I found myself zoning out. The guy screaming the ACT UP chant, was way over the top. At that point I told myself I was out of there. Such a shame though. There's a time and place for a speech like his - today wasn't it. I just wish I could remember his name and the organization he was representing.
Charles King, head of Housing Works. He still thinks it's 1993.
It's a great charity despite him.
Too bad all the HW money didn't always go to the charity.
