She has the right to say whatever the hell she wants. The Constitution protects that.

But it doesn't say anything about granting hateful people network airtime. She can go build a soap box and say whatever the hell she wants on her own time with her own resources.

They aren't suppressing her free speech. But they don't have to endorse it, or expand her audience for her, either.

Ann hasn't lost her free speech. She is free to say whatever she wants. Not being able to do it on the Today show doesn't prevent her from doing so on Fox, in her newspaper column, and in those things with pages and covers she manages to get published.

This if of course too fine a distinction for Mr Roxy to wrap that thing inside his skull around.

So, she trashes NBC, calls them the liberal elite and goes on about how bad they are but is pissed that they have banned her? She's got Fox and the right wing radio air waves to use to sell her book. Ann is a hypocrite. She needs them to help sell books but criticizes them at the same time. Can't have it both ways Ann! If anything, NBC has spoiled you for years.

This has nothing to do with free speech. Mike Huckabee was on not long ago promoting his book. I do not agree with him or his politics, but at least he is civil and does not resort to the name calling Ann does.

I am proud as a peacock over NBC banning the old hate monger!

The nation's top selling conservative author has been banned from appearing on NBC, insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

Banned for life!

"We are just not going to have her on any more, it's over," a top network source explains.

NBC's TODAY show abruptly cut Ann Coulter from its planned Tuesday broadcast, claiming the schedule was overbooked.

Coulter was set to unveil her new book, GUILTY.

But one network insider claims it was the book's theme -- a brutal examination of liberal bias in the new era -- that got executives to dis-invite the controversialist.

"We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now," a TODAY insider reveals. "It's such a downer. It's just not the time, and it's not what our audience wants, either."

For the book, Coulter reportedly received the most-lucrative advance ever paid to a conservative author.

The TODAY show eagerly invited the author months ago, for her first network interview on GUILTY.

The exclusive was to air during the show's 7 AM hour. The cut came Monday afternoon.

Executives at NBC TODAY replaced Coulter with showbiz reporter Perez Hilton, who recently offered $1,000 to anyone who would throw a pie at Ann Coulter. Hilton is also launching a new book this week, RED CARPET SUICIDE.

Haha, Perez makes me laugh so much.

I can understand why they would ban her, but I still think it's extreme. She's absolutely ridiculous though, so I really couldn't care less.

Shannon, I don't even think the word ridiculous covers it for Coulter. Perhaps Heinous Right Wing Castrating Bitch'll do it.

I remember when 9/11 happened and she said something about the wives of the fallen policemen and firemen as being money-hungry or some such crap. I bet anything if she'd appeared on The Today Show she'd have taken a cheap shot at Travolta and his family as well as Scientologists. I wouldn't put past her to go that low.

Anyway, a lifetime ban for Coulter is kind of surprising, but she is, according to the Slate article I'm linking below, wildly and singularly unpopular as a co-guest, so it's not a huge leap to think that maybe she annoys hosts, producers, and others working on chat shows just as much.

And do we really need to make the government/private actors distinction in First Amendment jurisprudence again? The thing is barely a paragraph long; it can't be that hard to comprehend.
