"October 12, 2005 -- A debonair New York socialite filed a $5 million legal notice against the Catholic Church yesterday — claiming his molestation at age 7 at the hands of a young priest led him to become gay.
J. David Enright IV — a scion of Albany's renowned Van Rensselaer and de la Grange families — told The Post he was repeatedly sexually abused by the Rev. Joseph Romano, a seminarian counselor at upstate Camp Tekawitha on Lake Luzerne, in 1961 and 1962.
"I believe that my life would be very different now," said Enright, 51, dressed in a custom-made English suit and French cuffed shirt. "I'd probably be married, living in Greenwich, with four children in boarding school.
"Romano bent my life.""

Suing for being molested is one thing, but claiming that it made you gay is just stupid.
"I'd probably be married, living in Greenwich, with four children in boarding school.
Uhm, and that's the PLUS side???
I saw the headline on the Post today -- I laughed out loud.
I'll say!
If the catholic church would simply change the requirements, leaving out the celibacy rule for priests - less of this would happen.
ROFL, OH please........can you say FAG! And of course I mean that in the most loving way......
Oh, my...HAHAH. That made me laugh.
They should make this headline a t-shirt.
My boyfriend and I are thinking of going as a priest and an alter boy for Halloween this year.
This is so stupid ! Child molestation is a horrible and despicable thing. How can something so traumatic make you choose it as a way of life ? Claiming that this made him gay, is like a woman saying she became a nymphomaniac because she was raped !
robbie, to make sure your costume is complete make sure you have the altar boy wearing kneepads...
Body of Christ?
No...body of Father Rob!
Is he sure that it's his life that he bent? I know, bad joke...sorry...
Please! Like he had a chance coming from a family with the last name de la Grange...that's drag-ready!
"I'd probably be married, living in Greenwich, with four children in boarding school."
And he'd STILL be renting a room twice-a-week at the East Side Club.
with the door open, Master!

I saw the headline and was reminded of the old Old OLD Very Oold joke:
"My mother made me a homosexual."
"Will she make me one if I buy her the yarn?"
First junk science with intelligent design and now the Post gives us junk psych.

And I thought it was that new-fangled bak-o-lite that made socialites happy and gay.
Who wants four kids in boarding school?
Enright made his mark in New York City as a young ad man. In 1982, he landed a $5 million annual account for David Merrick's Broadway production of "42nd Street."..."I had a completely straight life in business, socially on Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue," he said, noting that he dated women in the 1980s. "Then there was the other world, which was slinking around in Greenwich Village gay bars, finding mates."
---
Oh, HER. I remember HER. She used to "slink."
He's GAY? WHAT A TRAGEDY!!!! I mean, being gay just HAS to be the most horriblest terriblest thing to have happened to a man of such stature!!!!
UGH...I think it's much more likely that the sexual abuse made him RIDICULOUS.
And like the gay rich can't get married anyway?
Barry Diller, anybody?
Calvin Klein?
You got it, lil!
WIDE open, with the Brooks Brothers hankie discreetly veiling the light.
I must say, I got a little excited using the words "open" and "Master" in the same sentence--no comments PJ or jrb!
Lil, before AOL installed their IM catcher, I used to get the most interesting messages.
Are you in NYC? Then it wasn't you - all the spiciest ones came from guys in the midwest and out of the country.
"Where are you?" "Latvia!"
