No matter what city I'm in, I'm always walking faster than almost everyone else on the street. I don't think sidewalk stupidity is endemic to tourists only.

That's actually my office building in the video; sorry to say I'm not in any of the shots.

The biggest obstruction to sidewalk traffic I've ever experienced was having to step around and over their photographers (one was lying on the sidewalk).

I work on the block that Century 21 is on Cortlandt St.
I trip over tourists all day who stop in the middle of the street
and take photos of the cranes at the Ground Zero contruction site.

Though Times Square is brutal.

Or how people seem incapable of moving strollers one they get inside subway doors (even if mom/dad/nanny aren't getting off for another 12 stops)? As if the air inside the subway automatically locks the wheels?

To be fair, I think they think of that as keeping the stroller out of the way (because if they sit, the stroller often blocks two or three seats).

I work in Times Square and the worst contributors to pedestrian traffic is the bus tour salesmen and the rap cd salesmen. EVERY tourist wants to talk to them...I've ruined many a picture album of NYC trips.

I would feel paranoid that everybody knew, no matter how much undistracted purpose I walked with. My Midwesterner body type would give me away if I tried to walk in the New Yorker lanes. My alternative is steamrolling the tourists.

There clearly needs to be a third lane for my predicament.

They need a third lane for honorary/should-be New Yorkers. I had actually just been talking to a friend about the need for a "tourist lane" this week as we were trying to fight our way up 8th Avenue in the 40's. I really wish they had done this experiment in midtown, that would have been even funnier.

The slow-moving people herd is a HUGE pet peeve of mine, living in the center of Chicago tourism. The other thing that drives me CRAZY is stopping to look around when stepping off an escalator. Because nobody is behind you? Get out of the GODDAMN WAY! You can look for Bath and Body Works from two feet to the right. And don't give me a dirty look for saying, "Excuse me" while trying to squirm past you or I swear I will body check your discourteous ass to the floor.

I second keeping strollers off of sidewalks. To quote Jackie Hoffman, "please won't you get away with your children...."I wish Target and grocery stores would enforce non-stroller hours where people who wanted to move down aisles quickly could do so.

Oh and to whoever invented the grocery shopping carts that have a HUGE plastic truck on the front for kids to sit in needs to shag off. There is no getting past those.
