for anyone who goes to Tisch, can you please give me any tips on the audition? (i'm auditioning for MT).. just any little tid bits that you might have that you think helped you get in lol...and also any info on the admission process..like how much do grades really count? is it 50/50 or does the audition count more?
this is my top choice school and i would really appreciate ANY info or tips at all. thanks in advance!

make sure you choose a song to sing that can be acted. Thousands of MT performers have stellar singing voices. Not nearly as many can really PERFORM/ACT the songs they sing. I think that's key to any musical theatre audition. Let the performance entrance your auditioners, not the level of skill. And of course, a little luck is always a help, so break a leg.

oh wow...that sucks..i only have a 1780 on the new SATs..were you applying to Tisch?
Necromancer- Just like at any other selective college, SAT scores are very important at NYU. But admission to such a competitve college hangs on much more than just SAT scores. Perhaps there was another part of your application that influenced their decision?

Yeah Necro, I doubt they would have not offered you acceptance soley on that score...it's quite good. I know a couple people who had scores in that range who attend NYU.

Admissions to Tisch is equally weighted between artistic and academic reviews. You need good academic stats as well as a great audition. MT, especially, is very difficult to get into. Of the 3000 that audition for Tisch every year, about 1200 want CAP21 as their first choice studio. They accept about 80 and about 60-65 enroll. Also consider that at least a third of the class is already accepted from the E.D. round and you can see how selective it is. Good luck with your audition but make sure you have lots of other choices.

necro - i don't know how you would know that it was your SAT scores that didn't get you in. that doesn't really make sense.
NYU is 50/50 with grades/audition. both have to be very very good.
good luck!

Just remember that the audition includes an interview, and you're gonna want to seem fairly intelligent about why you want to go to NYU (understand the studio system so you can talk about it), why you chose your audition material, blah blah blah...
Good luck...I love going to Tisch!

thanks sporti...or maggie! i'm maggie too haha
NYU is a top school, so just having a great voice is not going to get you in. You need the whole package, and one will not really outweigh the other, but you definitly need top grades along with talent for Tisch. Yeah and Pinguin is right, make sure you sound smart and be informed during your interview! on Necromancer's comment I think that could not possibly be the reason, I am a sophmore at NYU and my SAT score was lower than that, and I got in on regular decision. Interview (if you choose to make an appointment for one), grades, and extra curriculars are all really important, especially if your activities are focused and not just a lot of them that are all over the place so it looks like you are just participating to get into college, and also so that they know you have direction and have an idea of where you want to go.
And yeah definitly make sure to give an entire PERFORMANCE, don't just stand there and sing!
Sorry this was long, but I hoped it helped and break a leg on your audition!!

Necromancer07707,
Honestly, a 1380 for Tisch is pretty good. 9/10 people who apply to Tisch with 1300+ SATs either have bad grades (sometimes), a bad essay (sometimes), or more likely, their audition was not on par with what they were looking for.
I know many EXTREMELY talented people with not so good SATs, ok grades, but nailed their audition and wrote a good essay that were accepted.

i'm another who goes to tisch who was accepted on way lower SAT scores & GPA. not saying the grades don't matter, but, it's not necessarily why someone is rejected. but that said, someone with a stellar audition will probably be waitlisted or rejected over a person with just as stellar an audition and amazing grades.
make sure when you go in there, you have tremendous passion inside for whatever audition material you bring in... (don't indicate to the auditors that you have passion.. but, just have it. posess it.) if theater is something you really care about, it should be clear by watching you do your material. have the sparkle in your eye. that's my best advice.
edited to say: they do not take "less intelligent students" early decision, it is that the application pool is simply smaller so the acceptance rate is higher. does that mean that someone who doesn't deserve to get in will get in because they applied early decision? probably not -- i feel that a lot of people get rejected from nyu that maybe deserved to get in, i don't feel that any early decision kids i know are any less talented or "less intelligent" than me or any of my regular decision peers. in fact, they are probably MORE intelligent than me for managing their time better by deciding what school they want to attend and getting their act together before the december cut-off date!
