No, pita is not the same as nan.
I've never had cheese nan but it does sound good. Lately in Bombay, they're putting cheese on everything, even dosas (and it's GOOD).
Pooris and stuffed parathas are still way better than nan, IMO.

Posted: 2/6/06 at 12:10pmdifferent breads from different regions. Naan, I believe is more Southern Indian? Roti is thinner and from the North? Paratha is puffy and thin.

Nan is tandoori, traditionally from the north (Punjab).
Roti is pretty standard all over, especially popular in Gujarat.
I believe paratha is also Northern. It is served simple or stuffed with various things such as eggs, minced lamb, onions...
The south isn't really known for bread. It's known more for idli and dosas.

Chapati, anyone?
I think the main reasons I like it are that it's easy to make, and I'm slowly letting whole wheat take over my baking.

Garland, i LOVE patra! Had my fill in Bombay recently.
Also, had paper dosas every morning for breakfast for 2 weeks, so I'm taking a break. But, South Indian food is AMAZING.
