Hey, this isn't for me, but a friend is looking for a job in NYC. She's smart and accomplished, and has a pretty extensive resume. She just graduated college with a theater degree, but she's having trouble finding a survival job. Anyone know any place around town that is hiring? I know it's tough times, but figured I'd ask. Thanks!

^ I was just gonna say, Playbill has a pretty awesome listing of jobs for all areas in theatre.

True, yeah, but I mean, she's not opposed to a typical survival job.

How IS the job market in NYC? Any industries that are hiring more than others? Any industries that are particularly tough to find a job in? Looking from a distance and would love any info!

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

Temping is currently the best bet right now. A lot of companies have laid off their full-time office staff because they can hire temps for a lot cheaper than that secretary who's been there for the last ten years (and not have to provide benefits, either).

With summer tourist season now getting into full swing, and many actors out doing summer stock, you'll also probably see an uptick in the needs in the service industry.
