Hire a lawyer----that will light a fire under the appropriate people's tushes.
Have the totes that the items were stored in dusted for fingerprints, etc.

Well, just a quick update. I got a call from the police last night. They ask I come down to the station. They went to my ex-friend's house and questioned him and he returned "SOME" of the items stolen. He told the police that I left them there for him to photograph to sell on eBay. I told the cop this was simply not true. That I didn't even have these items on my list because I hadn't notice these were stolen as well. These items returned were in the same box of the other stuff. Its like he picked through them and gave them back just to shut me up and chose what he saw fit to return.
I'm not sure if I mentioned this (I've turned to alot of people and can't remember who I say what to anymore)But Monday night he put up on ebay a set of glasses that was in my garage about a month and a half ago. I notified ebay and I am still waiting to hear from them. Well, the auction ended Wednesday night and sold for $26. I printed this out and gave to the officer. She questioned him and he said they were his. For some reason he has decided NOT to sell these to the winning bidder and hold them. I found this odd for someone who claims they own them to not sell them. I think he knows that if I can prove they are mine and he goes through with the sale that he may be kicked off of ebay as well as make things more difficult for himself. Then again, the officer may have suggested he do this. I'm not sure
What I find interesting is I confronted him last week and he said he had NOTHING of mine. Now, yesterday he finds about 10 items of mine that he returns. There is NO WAY I would have left these with him. This is not a book or a cd but something that is worth alot of money.
The Cop is handing this over to a detective. I think its her way of saying theres nothing more I can/want to do about this. She told me not to give up on this that there is still hope. She took a statement from his which he signed. She said if any of this stuff appears and we have a written statement, we add another charge of falsifying a police statement. That attached to breaking an entering (or as they call it now home invasion)and 2nd degree grand larceny (I think)
I am getting the word out. Thats all I can do at this point. I have a list made up and all I have to do is make copies. I plan on hitting the pawn shops, antique stores, and calling some auction houses as well.I hope he sold something already and that someone see's that its stolen and notifies me. At this point its all I have. Its a long shot. A REAL long shot. I have been told to file an insurance claim to get something back by some friends. However, I fell if I settle for that that I am dropping the case. What happens if I get a check form the insurance company, cash it and two months later I find more stuff of mine? DO I still have a case? I know I can't wait to long to file a claim, but at the same time I want to keep this investigation open. Maybe the insurance company can begin an investigation as well.Anyone know anything about this?
I also plan on telling the detective that this guy has stolen from his boss. I have some print outs of new drills in the box that his boss sells and he has sold them for atleast 3 or 4 years for about $150-200 each. I would say he sells about 6 or 7 a year. I showed his boss and he was not interested. I think my ex-friend told him some story like they were fake or something. I left them with the boss but I bet he tossed them. I hope the detetctive will look into this and question the boss on why he would ignore me when I presented hard proof that these were stolen. I know they were stolen because when I confronted my ex-friend I had them with me. I was not sure they were stolen was suspicious. All I did was take it out of a folder and show him and he freaked out. He said, "No! You can;t do this! I'll be fored! I'll loose my job! PLease, I have a family to support!" Now, I'm not detective but that does not sound like an innocent man to me. I see it as an admission of guilt. I hope the detective see's this and investigates it.
This person also borrowed some dvds of mine that were bootlegs. I loaned them to him because I thought he was friend whom I could trust. Turns out he made copies and opened a different account on ebay and was selling them. I found out and repoted it to ebay but it took them about 3 months to act on it. I didn't tell him I knew what he was doing because this guy is nuts. I didn;t want to cross paths with him. I thought I would go behind the lines and keep my nose out of it and drop a tip to ebay that this guy was selling copyrighted material on ebay. Well, they suspended him. His new account was terminated but his old account which is still active was not. He had to pay a fine and they reinstated him. I hope if ebay gets word that the same guy with just a different user id is selling stolen goods and I have filed this with my local law enforcement that they may take some action like kicking him off for good. Of course, if this detetcive can pursuade the boss to press charges it will help me alot. Sorry to rample on people!
I have recieved so much support and helpful advice from memebers here. I thank everyone for their private messages and encouragement. It has meant nore than you know. Thnaks again!!!

You're going to tell the cops about your bootlegs being stolen?
Good luck with that.

I just said some dvds and left it at that. I think oit says alot about the person I am accusing. Its shows he has sold stolen, copyrighted material on ebay and profitted by it. I added up the transactions of all the items he sold that I loaned him. It came to just a little over $900. I never saw a penny of it. But I agree with you, I will go into as little as I have to. I doubt they will care about that as much.

Don't forget to alert every online auction site you can! Even if ebay bans him, he can just hop on another site. Warn as many as you can.

Other than Craigslist, I am not sure of any others. Any suggestions/names? How would I go about getting some names of other ebay-like site? Google perhaps? Good Idea Mister Matt, Thanks!

This is just not adding up. First you say it was a best friend who you just discovered was ripping you off, now you say you knew he had stolen bootlegs and sold them on e-bay blah blah blah...I smell a Captain Obvious here...
PEACE.

Whats a Captain Obvious? You think I am making all this stuff up? I knew he was selling bootleged material. Yes. I was watching his account. I notified ebay and waited for them to take action. Looking back on it maybe I should have confronted him about it but at the time I thought it was just a friend doing a rather nasty thing behind my back. I too was doing something behnd his back. Reporting it to eBay. Even though I was pissed I didn't want to end a friendship of nearly 20 years over this. Also keep in mind, at this time I had no idea he was breaking into my house and stealing items from me.
As I look back I see alot of things that have gone on over the years that I did not pick up on because I trusted this person. Even when he would ask me questions that to some would sound obvious I didn't suspect him at all. This was not a stranger to me. This was someone who was as close as brother to me. Someone I talked to two or three times a day for years. Someone I went to movies with, discussed politics, news, and my problems. He also opened up to me and told me things about his kids and his marriage. It was, or so I thought, a two way street. This is why it hurts so much. That botter sting of betrayal doesn;t go away overnight. I find myself thinking about thsi was too much! Any distractions is a welcome. As of this morning I am discovering items that are missing that were in the location of the items stolen. I have updated my list several times over the past few days. Its gone from a list of 50 or so items now to two pages and it will probably go into more. So, think what you want. Any conclusions you have come up with is probably due to me not explaining every small detail to you.

I also have to say as a regular viewer of Law & Order: CVS and various and sundry other awesome shows, one of the fishiest aspects of the story is you "inheritance" of the items. It just isn't adding up to me.

Not sure what to make out of all of this. But you might want to contact USPS. If your ex-buddy is shipping the ebay items via the Postal Service, then there may be a federal crime about shipping stolen goods or mail fraud or something.

Well, FindingNamo maybe I should have contacted you before the police.I mean, since you are an avid regular of such shows you have alot more of an idea of whats going on here I guess. Maybe the executor should contact you of this man's estate. Or maybe you should look at the receipts of the items He did NOT steal and tell me how these items came into my possession.Maybe you can review some of the emails he sent which I have stated where he has discussed in clear detail about how he wanted me to have these items because he didn't want to add me to the will because of his financial problems and the hassle of setting up a meeting with his attorney.Getting out towards the end was very difficult for this man. I mean really! Are you for real!? You seem to have all the answers! I am trying to get some advice and the people here have been wonderful!I have recieved so much support and private messages from people here I can not even begin to tell you.
So, when you post crap like this I just want you to know your not helping. Your just creating more drama or trying to be funny. What kind of post was that you left? Maybe you should stick to television and fiction and leave the real detective work to the experts! Sorry the math "isn't adding Up" to you. I guess the guy who stole this stuff is the victim here. Forget the fact that we have actual proof he has stolen from his employer or his fuzzy history on ebay.A detective has been asigned to this case and I have already been advised what I need to do.Why hell, proving the stuff is mine is the easiest part of all this. I can produce all the proof anyone wants that they are mine. Its proven they were stolen by this guy is the hard part. As a matter of fact, if things don't add up why would I go to the police? With all due respect Namo, if you don't have anything valid to post regarding this topic then don't.I'm going through enough crap here the last thing I need is people like you trying to make a name for themsleves by posting dumb ass stuff like this!

Do you have a handwritten and signed letter regarding the "inheritance."? Surely that wouldn't cost anything from a lawyer? It only costs a few dollars to have something notarized.

Exactly, trc, you and I don't always agree but it looks like we're exactly on the same page about this.
