So, my DVD player/VCR combo finally died, and I want to invest in a blu ray player with easy netflix streaming. I've had people recommend the Xbox or PS2, but I am NOT a gamer by any means, so I feel like it would be kind of a waste. But I'd still be willing to try them.

Can anyone who owns one recommend a standalone blu-ray player that's not a gaming device? I really just want something that's reliable, wireless, with good netflix streaming. thanks in advance!

We were given a Sony Blu-Ray for Christmas that connects to Netflix (among other things). It works well, with the one concern that there can be a significant lag for the Sony to recognize changes to your Netflix queue. There is a 'refresh', but it doesn't always work right away.

Just for the record...the PS3 does a lot more than gaming. In addition to Netflix you can Hulu plus and a bunch of other services. I don't know what the cost of a Netflix ready Blu-ray player is these days because I haven't been in the market but if they are anywhere near in price I would say go with the PS3 even if you never plan to play a video game.

My other half and I treated ourselves to the LG Blue-Ray home theater system, and it's AMAZE-BALLS. Blu-Ray player, Wi-Fi, iPod/iPhone dock, NetFlix/Hulu/Youtube/Pandora streaming, and fantastic surround sound system with all the speakers. Best of all, it has 2 HDMI IN jacks, so you can plug in your HD cable/satellite boxes, gaming system, etc and and run those in surround sound as well. I believe it's model LHB535. Grabbed it onsale for $275, and so happy with it........

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone! I am still weighing the gaming console option at this point. Erik, does the PS2 do all the same as the PS3?
