The new Dixie Chicks single is available to hear for free on msn.com (think it’s only for Windows, though), and it’s fantastic. Any other fans here on the board (or any thoughts on the new song)?

thanks for the link! I *heart* the Chicks- never got the chance to meet Natalie, but Martie and Emily are two of the nicest people I've ever met. Glad they're finally coming out with a new cd soon- love the new single!

Hey, do you know if their Hurricane Katrina relief song "I Hope" is going to be on the new cd?

Anakela, according to Billboard, “I Hope” is indeed on the new album.

I gotta admit, when I read the lyrics on the Chicks’ website before hearing the new song, I wasn’t overly impressed (I like that they haven’t backed down, but the lyrics just seemed a little too obvious). After hearing it, though...damn. Natalie can sell a song, can’t she?

“Home” was just about as perfect an album as I can imagine, but my hopes are high for the new record.

Yay for I Hope being on the new cd!!

Home was a good album- Godspeed, More Love, Landslide, and of course Travelin' Solder, etc. But I think Wide Open Spaces will forever be my favorite, because Let 'Er Rip, as performed on the Rosie O'Donnell show, was my very first exposure to the Chicks ever... and plus, I *love* You Were Mine.

But yeah- damn, Natalie can sell a song!

I actually have May 27th marked on my calendar for the release of this album.

As if I wasn't excited enough about Rick Rubin working with the Dixie Chicks the fact that he recently called it "punk rock country" has me very excited.

I also read that there is an acoustic track on the album with guitar by John Mayer. Excellent!

My current BF's math teacher (Yep!) was the original Dixie Chicks singer.

The song is now up on their website, so you can bypass the msn.com link altogether.

I like the song though it's not one of my favorites. I called a friend that voted for Bush and truly regrets it who also thought what the Dixie Chicks were wrong for the way they acted. I thought maybe she would see the humor and the stand they take in the song appropriate. She, like country radio, it seems, thinks it's uncalled for. The majority of country radio is refusing to play this song at least in the major country markets. The general consensus is that they should have learned from what happened to Home's album sales (they fell drastically with the controversy and "Travelin' Soldier" which should have been #1 basically fell off the charts.) and just produced a classic "Dixie Chicks" CD. The majority of country music fans don't buy music for it's political content.

I really hope everyone goes out and buys this CD because I have a feeling that while it may be a critical success, it's not going to be much of a financial one. It's very sad.

Oh, JerseyGirl, people DO buy country music for its political/moral sentiment.
Just not THAT sentiment.
You know, the right kind.

Exactly. And I hate to generalize, because I truly love some country. The Dixie Chicks have a big following in folk fans, pop fans and even the Lilith Fair crowd, but the country fans for the most part have forgotten them or are still angry.

And I lied in the above post. It wasn't a friend I called, it was my mother. There, I feel better.

And the truth shall set chew free!

I love me some country, too, but I tend towards the more apolitical folk, like Dolly (and I swear I didn't know she was such a big gay icon when I fell in love with her).

Add me to the list of people who are eagerly anticipating this CD. I can't stop listening to that song! How odd that the people who attacked them are all for patriotism and freedom yet can't see that she was using her freedom to do one of the most patriotic things an American can do- it is our civic duty to question our leaders.

Dang! That's right! I always forget about that part. Because, obviously, if you don't wholeheartedly everything that the governemnt tells you then obviously you're for the other guys and you might as well be wearing a shirt that says, "Go, Terrorists, Go!"

The video for the Not Ready to Make Nice song is on there site. I think it's pretty well done. http://www.dixiechicks.com/

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I love the new video. Not what I pictured, but that's a good thing. I think it's beautiful nonetheless.

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

Being from the Bible Belt, there's been a lot of controversy about the song around here. One of the local stations played it the other morning and took calls for a solid hour on it and not one person had anything positive to say about it. Most of them just kept saying things along the lines of "Them girls talked bad about our President and Toby Keith." I think for a lot of people they just hear the name of the group and automatically are against it, but if they listened to the lyrics of the song they'd realize just how petty they're being. But, I guess for a lot of people I know, that's about as likely as Santa Claus coming to my house for dinner tonight.

I saw the video yesterday. My love for the Chicks just continues to grow. I hope they are marketed outside the confines of the restrictive Country Music world and that they find great success with what seems to be a classic, great album!

I love love love the song. It's my new ringtone.

Two nights ago the CMT Awards were on. Jeff Foxworthy hosted and was telling jokes about some song titles. He said, "Must Be Doing Something Right (by Billy Currington.) Those are words President Bush never hears." There was some applause but mostly boos. Country music has a strange strange fanbase.

MSN.com has another song from the new album on their Dixie Chicks page, and, unless I’m misreading this, they are adding another song tomorrow, another song on Sunday, and the full album on Monday (release date is Tuesday).

Has anyone else not been able to find the cd today? I've only hit the one Best Buy so far (trying others after work), but they were already sold out of it when I swung by during my lunch hour.
