I hope this album crosses over and sells through the roof.
There was a great article in Time Magazine this week about the Dixie Chicks.
I liked the DC before, and now love them for the guts and character they have shown

Posted: 5/23/06 at 4:42pmI don't think I've bought a cd (besides cast recordings) in over a year, but I will buy this one. I might buy two.

I bought mine this morning on iTunes.
I am really enjoying the album so far. I may pick up a "hard copy" as well just to support DC.

I am planning to buy this as well.
And as some of you know, it is extremely difficult to convince me to buy an album.
It should really count as 10 on the sales charts.

As soon as I get some cash I'm buying the album for sure.

I LOVED the Home CD, too.
I heard a beautiful new tune featured on the season finale of Medium last night...I'm going to have to check and see if this is the same song. Thank you for the heads up! They are such a talented trio.

#38re: New Dixie Chicks Song on msn.com
Posted: 5/23/06 at 10:45pmMeredith was exclaiming her fury at the Chicks for saying "Would Bruce Springsteen do The View??" or something of that nature and Joy called them "ungrateful" since they're a "woman's band" dissing a "woman's show" and rambled on about how they helped them gain exposure on television way back when and they all went on and on about it. It was ridiculous. Funny how they all did it smiling through their caps.

The Chicks really insulted country fans today and said they want no part of country music. I just don't know what genre they are wanting to fit in to. I think it could have been a cross over hit, but I don't think it could be a success without any country success at all. They really hurt themselves again.
I am watching the ACM awards. Reba just said, "Man, I don't know why I was so nervous about hosting this show. If the Dixie Chicks can sing with their foot in their mouth, surely I can host this thing." There was thunderous applause and a loooooong laugh.

Posted: 5/23/06 at 11:55pmI don't get country music fans today. I really don't understand them. It seems like yesterday when Natalie had supporters in the industry saying "She has a right to her opinion" or "She can say what she feels" , etc etc etc. and now she's a joke to country music. I mean it's their right to have their say because they can't just tuck tails under and shut up because of a closed-minded misunderstanding.

Well, when they claimed in Time that they didn't want to be in a 5 disc changer between Reba McEntire and Toby Keith and said they were happy that they weren't being played on Country radio, I am not sure exactly what they are wanting. Don't get me wrong, I love them. I just don't get the "California Rock" sound that Time claims the new CD has. What is California Rock? Does it even have a fanbase?
#42re: New Dixie Chicks Song on msn.com
Posted: 5/24/06 at 12:19amWell they were produced by Rick Rubin, who produced the "California sounding" Red Hot Chili Peppers , among many others so maybe the new sound will bring in new fans who overlooked them as country artists. Once Natalie said people came up to them and said stuff like "We don't like country music but we like you" maybe now people can just admire them for doing their own thing. they're not looking for approval, because they've been at odds and ends with the country industry anyway because they wanted to do their own thing and conservative country wasn't having it. so this may just be the final nail in the coffin so they can open new doors for themselves. I ramble too much, I swear, LOL.

I don’t get that either, JerseyGirl; the new album (which I like) doesn’t sound much different than 95% of what’s played on country stations. Most Top-40 country is “country-pop” anyway (I don’t think anyone but the Dixie Chicks would have garnered country radio play for the last album, which was basically a bluegrass record).
I’m curious to see how it does on the charts, but I’m even more curious to see what’s considered a “success” and what's considered a “failure”; they set the bar so high with their previous sales, they probably wouldn’t have matched them even if the “incident” and the feud with country radio hadn’t happened.

Posted: 5/24/06 at 1:11amThey said they couldn't imagine where you would put them between "Honkytonk Badonkadonk" and "Tequila makes her clothes fall off." Yes, those songs are very silly, but these are the same girls that recorded "Goodbye Earl." Just because it's about killing a wife beater doesn't make poisoning black eyed peas any less silly.

Ok that's too funny, because that's totally what I think! A couple of years back I went to see them in concert, (this must've been on their Top of the World Tour?), and my old boss was all "you like country music???" when she heard where I was headed that night, and I was all "no I don't like country- but I *love* the Dixie Chicks."
I am loving the new cd, especially "The Long Way Around"- the first verse about high school friends marrying high school boyfriends, and never moving out of the zip code their parents live in, and not being able to follow that plan, that is totally my life. And I'm glad to finally have a clean copy of "I Hope," instead of one found online that sounded as if it had been taped off of someone's tv or something.

I feel the same way about "Long Way Around."
Are there any numbers on how it sold yesterday?

Instead of starting a new thread:
"As Taking The Long Way debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 best-selling albums chart this week, with first week's sales of 525,829, the Dixie Chicks have become the first female group in chart history to have three albums debut at #1, breaking the record the Chicks established in 2002 when the group's last studio album, Home, debuted at #1 and made them the first female group ever to have two albums debut at #1.
With the #1 debut of Taking The Long Way, the Dixie Chicks have also become the first female group in chart history to have three studio albums occupy the #1 slot on the Top 200.
Taking The Long Way has achieved one of the year's Top 5 first week's sales tallies and has the best first week's sales for any female act on the Top 200 in 2006.
In addition to its chart-topping success in America, Taking The Long Way has just debuted at #2 in Australia.
Taking The Long Way arrives in the midst of an incredible media blitz surrounding the Dixie Chicks, who were honored with a profile on CBS's "60 Minutes" and appeared on the cover of Time magazine an unprecedented two times in May. The group was featured in a five-part series of interviews, culminating with an SRO live concert at New York's Bryant Park on Friday, May 26, on ABC's "Good Morning America." The Dixie Chicks will sit down for an in-depth interview on "Larry King Live" tonight, Wednesday, May 31."

Posted: 5/31/06 at 11:03amGood for them. I too do not like country music but I love the Dixie Chicks. Also, good for them for saying they don't need country stations and whatnot. No artist should be confined to one medium and the way the country world has bashed them, I wouldn't want to have anything to do with them either.
