I have been keeping an eye out for this one for a while and I am pretty excited. I think it is bound to bring a whole new audience to the theatre to watch a movie musical and the music is bound to hit the charts. Plus Ben Verneen plays Andre's father, which will be fun.

I don't know about this one. The movie itself looks pretty interesting - the cinematography etc. I'm concerned about the INCREDIBLY anachronistic music....
Like opera or musicals aren't ever anachronistic.
I'm very excited about this--I really hope it is good.

I am so old that I remember when Idlewild was an airport in NY.
WEll, yes, that's true...
But I don't generally like hip-hop or rap anyway - I'd rather hear a jazz score. Still, I could go see it and love it - either way, I'm sure I WILL see it since I try to support any musical that comes out (OK, not any - I didn't see From Justin and Kelly or whatever the hell that was).
I just saw a preview of it today! I looks very good, and original. and what a cast! can't wait to see it, and I hope it does very well.

There's a hold-up in the Bronx
Brooklyn's broken out in fights
There's a traffic jam in Harlem
That's backed up to Jackson Heights
There's a scout troop short a child
Krushchev's due at Idlewild

I dont like outcast's music, but I think I'll like this, thanks for the heads up.
I love outcast's music! Ah, how can you not?
"Shake it like a polariod picture!"
I can't wait!
I'm not wild about the music, but the cinematography, costumes, and sets look great, not to mention it's got Ben Vereen and the fantastic Terrence Howard.
bump
get excited for Idlewild!
musical set in the Prohibition-era American South, where a speakeasy performer and club manager Rooster (Big Boi) must contend with gangsters who have their eyes on the club while his piano player and partner Percival (André Benjamin) must choose between his love, Angel (Paula Patton) or his obligations to his father (Ben Vereen).
It looks like it could be a good movie, but I'm not that keen on Outkast's music
I want a valid reason for not liking Outcast.
Is it just because you're prejudiced against music that's not a showtune?
Or you don't like great lyrics and a great sound?
I love Roses.
And Hey Ya.
I agree that this looks like it has potential and I know we haven't heard all the music yet...however I'm curious as to why the trailers for a movie with a main character who is a piano player don't include a single piece of music that includes a piano!
African-Americans living in the South in the '20s.... fascinating concept for a film, also a topic that I've been exploring 24/7 in recent years. I'm there.
Maybe some of the songs will have a jazzy flavor?
Sure looks and sounds good to me. Across between CHICAGO and DREAMGIRLS?

Then you don't like music. Leave this house.
"LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Idlewild" is an entertaining mess. It blends musical styles and dances, historical periods with howling anachronisms, coy, almost childish gimmicks with R-rated sex and violence and "The Cotton Club" with "Six Feet Under."
Think of it as a 1930s remix. The movie has a "let's put on a show" casualness, yet its choreography and music can't be slicker. But an entertaining mess is still a mess."
"Idlewild's" mash-up is odd but enjoyable
"The big news, performance-wise, is Paula Patton, reminiscent of a young Whitney Houston, whose lovely voice is equaled by her beauty."
That's pretty high praise.
cant wait
"anachronistic"
music that is the total opposite. ??? ignorance shows like a loose hairweave track.
I got asked to give an opinion on the early stages of the trailer for this movie and have been waiting for it to come out for months now. It looks like it will be very interesting.
