New Years Eve in Times Square

Posted: 12/26/09 at 3:16pmThe last time I went (93-94 we got as far as 42nd street and sixth Ave. We were in the middle of the intersection, wall to wall people. A poor woman standing next to me had a claustrophobic panic attack. There was NO getting her out of the crowd. As we tried to get back to the sidewalk to high tail it to a safe place is when I realized we were jammed together so tight that my feet were not touching the ground. It was absolutely terrifying, specially when a guy I was crammed up next to started puking his brains out. Worst New Years EVER!

I spent NYE at The Cubbyhole last year after I fled Times Square. BEST. NEW YEARS. EVER.
Oh, and I was in Duane Reade on 12.31.08 and the elderly woman in front of me in line asked me what I was doing for NYE. I told her I was going to stand in Times Square. She said she'd hold my place in line while I grabbed DEPENDS and xanax. "You'll need them, " she said. As she was leaving she turned to us and said, "have fun getting peed on." I should have heeded her warning.

Posted: 12/29/09 at 2:14pmI once went to a matinee on New Year's Eve, and getting OUT of the theatre district at 4:30 in the afternoon was a nightmare. I can't imagine dealing with that madness and the huge crowds. I'm perfectly happy wearing my flannel pj's and sitting home with my sweetie in front of a roaring fireplace with a bottle of champagne, and a view of the NYC skyline from my living room. Up until recent construction, we actually could see the ball drop from our balcony. Now, however, our view is completely blocked, but we can still see the Central Park fireworks without having to leave the house.
