Ok, I am booking my flight. My hotle is a few blocks from Times Square. Does it matter if I land at JFK or LaGuardia? Is one a cheapier cab ride?
Any info is appreciated.

Posted: 4/26/09 at 9:12pmI beleive cabs have a flat fee from JFk to anywhere in manhattan of 45 bucks (unless they stopped doing that recently). If you don't have a lot of bags, it would be more price conscious to take the AirTrain to Jamaica and take the LIRR into the penn station. But if you're suitcase heavy, just spring for the cab. I don't know about Laguardia txi prices, but i would assume its more.

I don't like taking the train even though it is cheaper, I'm always too excited when I land and just want to get things going!
I have actually landed at both before, but my friend usally books the flights, this is the first time I've done it.

Posted: 4/26/09 at 9:25pmThe vans from LaGuardia are cheaper than 45 bucks. At least they were the last time I was there in Dec. of 2007. You can even book a spot in the vans before you get there I think. Or just go to the ground transportation booth at LaGuardia and have them call the van to stop at your arrival door. I do it most times I go. And they always seem to stop at the midtown hotels first.

Posted: 4/26/09 at 9:36pmThe taxis at LGA have no set fare. It's closer to the city than JFK, and the last two times I took taxis from LGA, the fare was around $35.

I live right by LaGuardia, and every time I've taken a taxi home from the Times Square area, it's been $20 with tip.
From JFK, to reiterate what someone already said, if you don't have much baggage take the AirTrain to the blue line and take that to Port Authority. It'll be less than $10.
Edit to add:
From LaGuardia, if you don't have much luggage, take the M60 bus to the Astoria Blvd. Stop on the N/W yellow line, and take that to Times Square. That will cost less than $5.

Posted: 4/26/09 at 10:01pmWow, that taxi must have flown! When I take a taxi from my apt. in the w. village, to a friend's place on the upper east side, it's more than $20 with tip. Actually, it was $8.00 with tip to go up 9 th street to the vet. I live on 10th!

Posted: 4/26/09 at 10:05pmMaybe that's it. Two weeks ago when I was at LGA, I had asked one of the taxi drivers about the fair. He told me they have no flat rate, but it usually averages about $35, and mine did. There's no way of guaranteeing anything though, when there's no flat rate. you could be stuck in traffic.

Posted: 4/26/09 at 10:12pmLast time I took a cab from LGA to my apartment it cost $25 including tip. Granted, I live right by the Queensboro bridge in Manhattan. But I sure couldn't do it from JFK for that.
