re: New York Hotels

Anyone have any experiences with the Hotel Edison?
#27

re: New York Hotels

Depends on what you mean by experience. re: New York Hotels

Seriously, the Edison is clean, well-situated, a little dowdy and old-fashioned with somewhat small rooms, but a perfectly fine place to stay if you are not planning to stay in your room all day long.

Every year, the senior theatre class at Eastern Washington University goes to NY for a "field trip", and they always stay at the Edison. They love it.

re: New York Hotels

The only place I'd live in NYC is Hell's kitchen. They really cleaned it up over the years, and it has a very nice mix of people. It's nice to see 2 men walking down the street hand in hand and then see a family off to see a matinee of the Lion King. No matter where you go in this world you always have to be aware of what's around you. I've worked in Manhattan for more years then I'd like to admit and I never fear walking in Hell's Kitchen, no matter what time of day or night it is. I would never suggest to someone to stay in a place where their life would be at risk. If you want to be close to theatres and some fine restaraunts there's no place better than in Hell's Kitchen area. I still say the Skyline Hotel is a fine place to stay. If you need some suggestions on places to eat, just let me know..there are some very good ones very close to this hotel.

re: New York Hotels

Does anyone know if the Skyline has Egyptian sheets? I can only sleep on 550 thread count or more Egyptian sheets. Anything less chafes me. It ages the skin so. At least that's what I tell my servants.

re: New York Hotels

bwayaddict - I recently stayed at the Doubletree Times Square. Every room is a suite - and four of us were very comfortable in our room. We had 2 double beds and a pull-out sofa. I believe there are discount rates available if you ask for them. The Times Square location was terrific - the TKTS booth was right outside the front door of the hotel.

Good luck!

Did anyone see that movie, Uptown Girls?

"sheets of egyptian cotton", anyone?
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

re: New York Hotels

I don't see movies in "public" theaters. But then again, I don't need to see Uptown Girls. I just live it.

re: New York Hotels

Regarding hotels in NYC. I don't know about the sheets but I would only like to suggest that if a bathtub is important to you, make sure the room you get has one.

I’m still reeling from the fact that the first room the Milford Plaza tried to give me only had a shower. When I went down to complain there was no bathtub/shower combo (an absolute necessary in my eyes), I was told that I had not “requested” a room with one (!?!) to which I replied, “I didn’t ask for one because it never OCCURRED to me that a hotel room would NOT have one!”

Should I ever do any other traveling in the NYC area I have learned that I will be sure to ask if the room has:

A) bathtub
B) shower in bathtub
C) A toilet
D) A sink
E) a bed no smaller than a full size. I got stuck with a twin size. And, yes, I had requested a queen size bed before hand. I had to settle for a twin in order to get the bathtub.
F) pillows
G) sheets/blankets.

I will never take it for granted that these little items are included with the price of a hotel room again (at least in NYC).

The room I had at the Best Western in SLC was a luxury suite in comparison.

Not only did I have all of the above (and I didn't have to ask for the bathtub/shower) but I had 2 double beds, an in room safe, a coffee/tea maker, coffee and tea provided for the coffee/tea maker, coffee cups, the sugar/creamer, a desk with a chair, a roomy closet (don't even ask me about the one I had at the Milford), an ice bucket, little cups replaced every day, a little balcony, hair drier, an iron & the ironing board and an easy chair.

I might be willing to try the BW in NYC if it is anything like the SLC BW but I can not recommend nor will I ever go to the Milford again.

Dear DofB, I was absolutely stunned to read about your bad experiences at the Milford Plaza! There's only one solution to the problem: Continue to vacation in Salt Lake City and avoid NYC at all costs.

Yes Etoile I LOVE to sleep on Egyptian cotton, I MUST have a mattress filled with the down of only Swiss Eider ducks and absolutely need gold plated cups in the bathroom. I am a money worshiping swine who cares only about material things. I do not care about people unless they wear the right clothes, drive the best cars and have the finest homes in the proper neighborhoods where there are no minorities. Are you happy? Have I covered all the terrible rich pampered girl conceptions you have assumed about me?

re: New York Hotels

Oh Diva, how can you be so harsh to Etoile?

We all know how elegant your tastes are. Remember the time you posted a message on Broadway.Com, claiming that the stage show of SCOOBY DOO was the greatest piece of live theater you ever saw? Or how about the time you went on and on about what a great ballet Puccini's MADAMA BUTTERFLY was? However, your most scintillating posting was about how offensive you found THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES to be. What did you expect from a play that had the word "vagina" in the title? LITTLE WOMEN?

No, dear lady, we figured out your tastes right from the start.

Has anyone ever stayed at the W Hotel?

I'll be staying at the Skyline in September because the parking rates are great and we're driving from toronto.
It's good to see this thread, thanks!

Phantom2, which W? There's a bunch in NYC, I've stayed at 4 of them...Times Sq, Union Sq, Lexington Av., and The Westin Times Sq, as well as the two Sheratons (I'm a huge fan of Starwood hotels!) so I guess I lied a little bit before...3 Ws, 2 Sheratons and 1 Westin (many many times, I think it might be my favorite with my heavenly bed and heavenly bath.)

I have never stayed at any Hotel in Manhattan but I have installed kiosks at over 50 and have seen many rooms to check cable boxes for my old job.
The St Regis has the prettiest rooms.
I like older hotels. High ceilings, moldings an exquisite place.
My sister was married there.
Breathtaking!

The St. Regis is yet another Starwood hotel...Westin bought it...I would LOVE to stay there but it's usually about $400/night

Friends and Family who have come into NYC have stayed at the Paramount...I think the rooms are small, but then again most are in NYC unless you stay in a suite. Found this web site that might help.

If I travel alone to NYC for a first time visit would the Milford Plaza be a wise choice? It came up on my internet search as being affordable and close to the Theatre District.

I'm not real fussy but I do want to be safe.

Also, is it always hard to catch a cab after a Broadway show (assuming I don't do the stage door thing.)
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

Generally speaking a cab after a show is a nightmare. Unless you're one of the first ones out. But that often means "Bad Seat" or "Missed Curtain Call". Both of which I hate. :)

I've never stayed at the Milford Plaza.

I've stayed at the Milford numerous times and it has always been a pleasant experience. I don't remember the bathtub thing, but then, I don't require one. The rooms are small, but they are clean and comfortable and the hotel is conveniently located. I'm only in the room to sleep at night, so I don't care about anything else.

Anynoe know anything about the Best Western on 48th between Broadway and 8th?

New York Hotels

I've stayed at 2 nyc hotels: the new yorker, marriott marquis, and the doubtree time square.

The New Yorker was a dump. The rooms were ugly, dull, and felt dirty. It was like being in a horror movie...where people get killed in hotel rooms. haha

The marquis was an excellent hotel. If you get a time square view (in any hotel) it is well worth the extra money. the lobby is very cool and comfortable. Its a perfect place to hang around before a show. The rooms were great as well. Excellent. The location of the marquis couldnt be better. its on the side of time quare where all the theatres are on so you dont have to cross the street.

The doubletree was also an excellent hotel. And those cookies they give you are to die for *yum*. Everyone that works at that hotel are soooo nice. The elevators are very fast unlike the marquis ones (which is important if you're late). The suites are very comfortable and very spacious. the bathroom is huge for a time square hotel. The problem with the location for me was i had to cross 7th avenue and broadway everytime to get to the marquis side. Oh well its a price to pay for a very good hotel.
all in all i loved the doubletree the most.
