Thanks! Thanks! Thanks for all the input. I haved learned a lot from these message boards. Here's an update on my hotel search. I checked out everyone's suggestions. Tripadvisor.com turned out to be very helpful with their reviews. Came across Hotel Giraffe which everyone seemed to love. It's in Grammercy Park area which I've not stayed in but I think the hotel will be worth it. I wouldn't do this for myself but for my daughter-in-law and her mother I think they will like it. It's more expensive than Skyline but they're willing to pay the extra. I'll give a review when I return.

Just wanted to add the Righa Royal (http://www.rihgaroyalny.com/welcome.cfm) and Michaelangelo (http://www.michaelangelohotel.com/) hotels as options for those of you who are visiting NYC this summer. We had a wonderful stay at both, but the rooms at the Righa are all suites. I believe both hotels offer summer rates, but are still a little on the pricey side. The locations are wonderful- in midtown and close enough to walk to shows, but not right in Times Square.

Great hotel! I stayed there once...Neighborhood isn't so hot though...and a bit of a hike to Times Square...Super 8 between 5th and 6th on 46th and the Broadway Inn are charming and inexpensive alternatives.
