SOMMS... totally. I was truly one of those "STAND TO THE RIGHT! Please" people as I stormed down the Dupont Circle escalator.
Now that I live in Seattle I'm a lot more mellow...

1. I echo the one about people talking on their cellphones while standing RIGHT IN FRONT of the subway entrance.
2. When you're stuck behind someone who is heavily smoking, and it's too crowded to efficiently move before you get a face of THIER nasty smoke.
3. The $10 salad I just ordered from PAX. In the words of Miranda Hobbs: "Oh, a $20 hamburger. That's reasonable!"
4. The constant repairs by the MTA on the subway- that never result in anything running any more smoothly.
5. Starbucks on every corner, except when I really want coffee. Then they disappear.
6. The endless winters.

I will second the long winter--though we did a get a late start this year.
I despise the MTA most days--raised the rates and the service is worse. And guess which train I'm on (oh lucky me) the Never Rarely Whenever!
I PLOW DOWN mofos who do not stay on the right. especially on stairs and going around corners. people who can not stay to the right are MORONS (and I'm talking about people who live here who can't SIMPLY stay to the right or move when they see someone coming through).
I also hate the abundance of lazy, rude workers at various stores. Makes me go out of my way for the ones that are nice.

LOL "The Rarely, Never, Whenever" You must live in Astoria.
I have to deal with sh**ty 7 Train service- which sometimes is non-existant- as I live in Sunnyside, aka Actor-ville.
I also hate people who think it's "fun" to make a running leap onto the train as the doors are closing, thereby packing into an already packed train.
I also hate getting onto the train around 4pm when the high schools let out. I'm sorry, but high school kids in NYC are ANIMALS. SO unbelievably obnoxious and irritating.
1 Thing I Do Like: My very own Taylor The Latte Boy @ Starbucks on W. 34th bet. 7th and 8th. So cute!

Dear people,
If you hold the subway doors, I'm going to give you a dirty look. Deal with it.

Just to echo a few well made points by other posters:
1. Yes, the lazy and/or obnoxious help in certain stores is on the rise. I can't even walk into the Tower Video downtown. Lazy, and fowl. I hate hearing workers say "F*ck" when they are behind the counter - anywhere!
2. NYC school kids ARE ANIMALS. Tranquilizer gun, please.
Not mentioned, the new popularity of the TIP cup everywhere. Sorry, you just rang up my groceries. You don't get a tip for that.

Posted: 3/18/05 at 2:31pmNow...as much as I hate tourists...and I do, I really, truly do...and I don't care which of you hates me for saying that...I, like the rest of you, absolutely despise stupid mutherf*cking New Yorkers who seem to be in Easter Parade, they stroll so f*cking slowly. And ya know what, I'm not late for work. I'm never late for work (my boss always is, which is why I'm never late for work). But I simply like to get where I'd like to get without being on someone else's timetable. As the rude, horrible, bad human being I am, I usually just snap my fingers right behind them to help them pick up the tempo!

Posted: 3/18/05 at 2:47pmOk, I know we can rarely hear service announcements while in the subway, but sometimes we need to actually *try* and listen. But idiots keep yacking away while service announcements are being made. (God forbid if there's ever an evacuation emergency). And then when the #1 goes express, they are the first ones to get all bent out of shape. Shut your piehole for two seconds and try to make sense of what is being said.

LOL totally!
Also, people who refuse to let others OFF of the train before they get on. They just barrel through people.
Also, if you're sitting next to me, STOP looking over my shoulder to read MY issue of Star. If you're wondering how Mary-Kate is doing, go to the newsstand.
And while I'm at it, you may have had a long day, but that's no excuse to fall asleep and rest YOUR head on MY shoulder!

I always cringe when anyone knocks tourists......we are all a tourist at some time or another.
I live in Palm Springs, and sometimes the tourists and snow-birds drive me nuts, BUT.........I never say bad thinga about them cause they dump a ton of $$$$$ here.

Don't you find it just too too appropriate for this place? But only sometimes.
And I'd never name names!!

I love NY to death but even I have my rants:
People Who Move Slowly
Stupid People
Ignorant People
INSANE Bike Riders
The Repulsive Smell of Rotting Sewage During the Summer

Everytime I'm trapped in a subway car full of screaming, cussing, completely-unaware-of-anyone-but- themselves teenagers, I WEEP for the future. I mean, I can NEVER remember acting like that AT ANY AGE. Unbelievable.

I've got a rather filthy insinuation on the '5 Year Old Arrested' thread.
Have you seen that one yet?

No kidding. It's kinda scary actually. And this past weekend I was watching a movie at the AMC on 42nd St. About 5-10 minutes into the movie, we hear this shouting rushing into the theater. About 20 kids ran in screaming and ran around the theater for a good 20 seconds disrupting everything and confusing everyone to pieces. And then they ran out the other exit door. Call me overreactive, but I thought I was going to get shot or something and was kinda shaken up by it. They turned the lights on after the kids had left to see what was going on and ONE theater employee poked his head in and walked to the exit where the kids left. Not sure what happened, but the lights were left on (while the movie continued to run btw), and then a minute or 2 later once we realized nothing was going to happen, we shouted for them to turn down the lights and they did. No one from the theater addressed us, apologized to us (I mean they didn't even rewind the movie), said they are looking to fix things so it wouldn't happen again. Nada. I digress, but seriously, how could you possibly have been raised to behave that way. Unbelievable.

I thought of another one--actors who speak LOUDLY to their friends on the subway (usually to name drop or show off). I so desperately want to say to them, "PLEASE use your offstage voice" and "you are CLEARLY ignorant of the art of theatre".
And if I'm ever guilty of doing that--PLEASE remind me to use my offstage voice!!
