Yes! I remember the booths and hard wood floors! It's pretty expensive, isn't it? Or maybe it's just always really crowded. It was close to my hotel (Novotel) but for some reason we never ate there.
Ellie, I'm...I'm....*zzzzz*
(Will deface and return Ellie's photo as avatar once Ellie's unconscious.)
Actually I stopped in Roxy's late one night on my way to Penn Station. I was taking a late train home and wanted a snack for the train. It tasted awfully good to me. (Lots of envious stares from the other passengers around me too.)
What did you eat? How are the prices?
I've gotta admit, I'm such a dweeb - I'm still working up the courage to go and eat by myself when I go to NYC. A Starbucks is one thing, but a restaurant is another. Call me superficial, but here where I live, dining is meant to be a social event, and you only eat out by yourself if you're a leper.
Aaand I've killed this thread with my loner rant.
Roxy, Maxie's and Ben Ash are just some of the "faux" deli's in the Times Square area. Sure, they look authentic, but for the real deal of a New York Deli, you have to go to Carnegie.
For the person that asked about Cafe LaLo, you can take the 1/9 to 86th Street and walk three blocks. Or you can take the B train to 86th Street and walk about five blocks. Cafe Lalo is on 83rd Street, between Amsterdam and Broadway.
(But as for cheesecake, I still stick by my original post: Junior's in Brooklyn. There IS a Junior's branch that has opened downstairs at Grand Central too, so you don't necessarily have to go out to Brooklyn, though it's not too far of a trip).

I am known to make a superior cheesecake.
Perhaps there should be a bww cheesecake party.

My cheescake has won awards. Oh well.
The best i have tasted comes from Riverdale and it is near Loehmann's. Sorry to report i don't remember the name.

Corine, dem's fighin' words.
It'll have to be a BWW Bake-off then.
Jose,
I tell you. I put passion in everything i do.
Including my white chocolate sour cream cheescakes.
I like Junior's pumpkin cheese cake. Italian cheese cake is more my taste, fresh tasting and lighter.
Best Italian cheesecake: Monte Leone's Bakery in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn. On Court St.
I'll check it out Sherman. I live in Brooklyn (Bensonhurst).

Tiff, don't worry about dining alone. In NYC, you'd be lucky for people to actually just recognize your existence, let alone care.
You can get some nice beefcake from BlueWizard's icon.
