Anybody read any good books lately?
(I'm reading a very good biography on Richard Rodgers by William Hyland)
Sorry.
-damn!
We're not above sodomy either, JBG. Sometimes it's not even pleasurable.
(PS. Matt I don't think he's Rodney. He hasn't spewed epithets or drooled over underagers' avatars yet.)
Good books? Not any that would interest the general public, unless you like non-fiction crime and forensic readings!
I'm reading "Open A New Window" by an author that I can't remember his name. And since the book is all the way in the other room I can't fathom getting up to get it.
I also recently read the book on the Making of "Follies" which was very good.
Oh my! I do believe I'm blushing farther.
Probably not in your face, either.
Areyou liking the making of Follies?
I also just read (I'm embarrassed to admit it) the five Harry Potter Books. I was recently visiting my family and my niece insisted that I borrow them and read them. And I'm ashamed to admit that I actually enjoyed them immensly. I guess it just goes to show that you can't judge a book by it's cover.(wow i never actually thought that i'd find a situation where that saying actually fits)
Don't be embarrassed about reading HP! Welcome to the dark side, hun. Aren't they fantastic?
I believe you're referring to OPEN A NEW WINDOW: THE BROADWAY MUSICALS OF THE 1960s by Ethan Mordden.
84- I don't want to get going on this topic again because I don't want to recieve any more nasty PM's.
tiff- pretty soon you're going to have me blushing all over
Yes, Mary, that's the one I started it last night so I don't have an opinion yet.
Tiff- yes they are amazing. I'm actually looking forward to the next one whenever the hell it's going to come out.
I don't think the idea is for us to not disagree, just for us to accept our differences and not make it personal or condescending.
Thank You!
That is all that I was trying to say!
Because I admit that I'm the first one to jump in defense of the shows I like.
Millie_Dilmount currently has Harry Potter as his Icon.
On the HP thread, someone said the announcement date is Jan 2005, anticipated to have a June 2005 release date for the 6th book. I'm skeptical, but hopeful!
Hey Type,
Shouldn't we be movin' all this over to the Random Thread?
I just can't believe how long people have to wait in between the books.
Rowling says it's because she's adding to her family well I say, "what have you been doing for the past nine months? put your laptop on your stomach and start typing!"
I don't PM people nasty things, ever.
I was just stating my opinion on the case at hand, not bringing up a new argument.
I'm a firm believer in questioning someone's opinion to see where it's basis lies is all.
I know, some people can be so selfish sometimes! *disgusted shake*
And, er, yes, M_E, but where IS the random thread? (And why haven't you been on it lately?)
OR we could move onto, you know, the HP thread. Makes sense.
I don't think JB was implying you, by the s word...by the - dammit.
I'm currently reading and loving THE COLUMNIST by Jeffrey Frank. Davis Sedaris recommended it when I saw his show in Boston, so I figured it had to be great. It's a hilarious fictional memoir of a corrupt Washington journalist and his rise to success. The story has been desribed as that of "a maleficent Candide" which is seeming to be true.
"I wash my face, then drink beer, then I weep. Say a prayer and induce insincere self-abuse, till I'm fast asleep"- In Trousers
It seems that every month or so, one of these threads pops up. It's always the same lament, "Why can't we respect one anothers opinions?"
I'm alwyas left asking teh same question when I see one of these threads, "Why does it matter?" Seriously, in every aspect of your life you meet people who agree and disagree with your opinion on any topic. Some of these people can state their disagreement in a logical and respectful manner, providing their own reasoning for their opinion and some are incapable of doing so. Why should this be such a huge issue? If you don't like someone's response, just stop interacting.
Most of the time these "can't we respect one another" threads turn into fights that the original poster perpetuates by continuing arguments with those who either don't get it or who pretend not to get it. What is the point?
well welcome to you JBGolightly !!!
i'm one of the nice, somewhat intelligent teenage posters.
Please don't kill me!
