I've been reading this site for quite a while but just recently joined. Though I must say I'm a little dissapointed. It seems that no one has any respect for anyone else's opinions. I mean come on people, this is theatre we're talking about. It's all subjective. It's literally impossible for everyone to agree on what is good or bad. It's all up to individual taste.
And I realize that the whole purpose of this site is to discuss out opinions but it seems that many people have no patience for opinions that don't match their own.
If someone posts and opinion on something, rather than posting a response that explains why someone else doesn't agree-- many people post a childish and angry response. Why are we all acting like children?
Ya know what, I don't want to teach the world to sing.
I don't want to buy the world a Coke.
Sometimes it gets hot in the kitchen.
If ya don't like it, then Holly Go Quickly.
Very true.
People seem to think only positive opinions on subjects are valid...It seems to have gotten worse (I also have been reading for a while, but started posting recently).
Opinions are like butt holes. Everyone's got one and everyone thinks everyone else’s stinks!
I'm POSITIVE you're not the only one that feels that way, Jb.
Some of us have mastered the art of disagreeing with an opinion without hurling verbal abuse at the other member, and some of us have not.
I'd be the first one to admit that I'm not perfect; but I do try to be respectful of my fellow members.
Your statement about members acting "childish" is more factual than you may realize--as you can probably tell from the various posts, we have many teens and early twenty-somethings on the Board.
I applaud you for airing your views--unfortunately, the issue you raise has been going on here for quite some time and I don't see it vanishing any time in the near future.
I think your best best, as many of us have come to realize, is to enjoy your stay here, make sure YOU try to handle situations properly, and navigate through the jerks as best you can.
Once again, thanks for sharing.
Loge, you crack me up :o)
Robbie J, you just proved my point.
Wow, my point is just being proven in abundance. Thankfully there some adults out there.
I thought my childlike approach would better enable me to speak to an individual with a childlike IQ such as yourself.
Are you trying to get me to stoop to your level?
It's entirely up to you, JB, but there is that handy "Report Verbal Abuse" button.
I'd say that a line was just crossed. . .

YOu've been reading for "quite a while"? How long is that?
Look there's narrow-minded people (and open-minded people who won't be reasoned with on certain subjects) everywhere. But this message board doesn't really strike me as an oppressive groupthink machine. If it seems that certain opinions are struck down unusually quickly, it's probably because the argument has been made about 10,000 times before. Like the "what's the big deal with Wicked" thread recently. That's like walking into a sports bar in Boston and asking them why they don't like the Yankees.

Awww, someone call the WAAAHHHHAMBULANCE!!!
Good idea. I didn't even think of that.
Hehehehe no I just like making Jose' work. It's such a rare occurance that when it does happen it is quite exciting to watch.
Nothing against you personally JB.
Actually I really don't like you so you can feel free to take it personally.
But then who would I be?
I have been here since the start and I am sick of these reformers who try to come in here, don't even have any sort of experience with the board besides "lurking" which means nothing, and then tell me how to post.
Okay look, I'm sorry. I did'nt mean to "start anything". Also I wouldn't exactly call myself a "reformer". All I did was post my opinion. And I honestly didn't think that I would suddenly get so many people up in arms over this.
And SUM, I don't quite understand why me posting this would have made you dislike me. But whatever, once again it's all subjective.

Sum, for someone who has "been here from the start" you should know better.
Please post with courtesy (and common sense) - no use of profanity, obscenities, or name calling.
Your post of profanity against this new member was unnecessary, inappropriate and unacceptbable. It was deleted by me.
Please adhere to the Guidelines.
Thank you.
I'm perfectly aware of the rules Joe, being aware of them makes them much easier to break.

Your butchery of the English language is unacceptbable to me too sir.

Okay- perfect proof of what I said. We've also had several users join here and start their posting careers by chiding us for being mean or overly negative. Not a good way to join a community. So you're bringing up old bitterness that way.
Now pleeease be nice, guys. An apology was made; there's no need to turn this into a fight.

Obviously, there are points already made here. However, I did just want to say that my experience is that the 'children' of the board are many times the most open-minded, positive and respectful of the bunch. As I said, that's just my experience.
"I mean come on people, this is theatre we're talking about."
We talk about theater here? I haven't been off the OT board in SO long.
