I was asked by someone, but I turned them down. I'm worried going dateless will give him reason to hang around me all night... and I'm not sure I want to pay all of the money and not have a good time. It's only my junior prom, so there would always be next year.
Do you think I'd regret not going?

He'd asked me to homecoming earlier this year and we went together, but I didn't really know him and it was awkward. He still doesn't really talk to me, and I didn't want prom to turn out the same way.
I don't really think you'll regret not going to junior prom, but: do you have any dateless friends you can group together with?
Are any of your friends going solo?
I came out to my "girlfriend" the week before my prom, so go knowing you'll have a much better night than she did. :) (it ended happily -- she came out herself a few years later)

Go! You're not getting any younger. sure, today you're in high school, but tomorrow you'll be living all a lone in an apartment full of cats.

Yeah, but she might give that guy she doesn't want to go with a reason to hang around with her! If I were you, I'd show him this thread before the dance, then he'll probably steer clear of you!

Phyllis, maybe I'll do just that!
A few of my friends are going solo. People just put so much emphasis on dates for prom that it makes me nervous I won't have a good time, haha.
Go with your friends and make a night of it. Rent your own limo and have fun. And if a hot guy asks you to dance, dump those bitches and jump on him.
If you have friends going without dates, just go. If said guy gives you a hard time, just tell him you were making it a ladies only event or whatever.
Honestly, people do make too much of a big deal out of it. From what I recall, nobody spends the entire time with just their date. Heck, 9 times out of 10, it's usually the girls just dancing with each other, unless it's a slow dance.
I'd totally go with other dateless friends. And not everyone with dates are actually "dating", so it's not like they won't be just hanging out with other people. Prom can be a social event instead of a "couples only" event. It's what you and your friends make of it. I've always thought the idea that heterosexual couples are a requirement for Prom to be antiquated and ridiculous. It's not like you get handcuffed together during the event or anything. I attended 4 senior proms and never dated any of the girls I was with. They just wanted a fun guy who liked to dance to hang with and we always double- or triple-dated to the event with friends.
Oh God, Joe! :::SOB!:::
Hey! There is nothing wrong with living alone in an apartment with cats, thank you very much!!! lol
Go! Do not ever let someone else stop you from doing something. It is a few hours long. Show up, eat, dance a little, and boom it's over. And you never have to think "should I have gone?". I took dates to my dances but usually ditched them within minutes. Too many people to take pictures with, dance with, talk to.
Here's an idea.
Go and wear a light coat over a low-cut, tight-fitting, crimson-red dress.
At a quiet moment in the music, stride into the center of the dance floor, rip off the overcoat, revealing the crimson dress and exclaim, "I AM THE WHORE OF BABYLON!!!"
I bet Horace Mann still remembers you that way, PJ.
Pop-u-lar. I knew about pop-u-lar...
The only reason to go is if you have a bucket of pigs blood.
Don't expect to be a hit 25 years later, though.

I didn't go to my Prom and I didn't make me a bitter sarcastic spinster who hates everyone.
Did it?

At the end, go home with the cute new wave guy. You can't trust anyone with a name like Blaine, and his personality sucks.

Definitely go! I went to both Junior & Senior prom, and I'm glad I got to experience both. Also, I went dateless to junior prom and it was fine!
How many cats does ' an apartment full ' mean....

Too many cats is one more than I have, so 16.
I didn't go to a single dance in high school. Not a homecoming, prom, social, or anything. So many people told me that I would regret it. At 33 years old I still don't regret not going. But that's me. You need to do what is right for you. Maybe you could rent a date? I bet Taz would go with you...
btw - I have two cats but I don't live alone in an apartment.
