Have you ever had a non-sexual crush?
And how do you know if/when it crosses the border from non-sexual crush to actual crush?

Probably not the serious response you were looking for at all, but the thread title is defined, at least in my mind, by this man:

Yes.
I think that you normally don't know when it crosses over until after, and then you are weak, weary and disastrous.

Posted: 5/30/07 at 4:50amWhen I was in high school, I had crushes on two girl friends of mine, both very pretty and beautiful on the inside, too. I never imagined anything sexual with either of them, though I did think about kissing them and I felt like I could fall in love with them. But that was the extent of my crush.

Thanks for that, papa.
My friend Megan and I were discussing them last week. I have a fascination with this guy, but I don't WANT him. I'm just intriugued by him. So that's a non-sexual crush, right?
Megan, on the other hand, THINKS she has a non-sexual crush on a guy... and I think it used to be, but it has crossed over into crushing territory.

Posted: 5/30/07 at 10:55amI have them allll the time. I would agree that being intrigued by someone enough that you think about them a good deal of time would constitute a non-sexual crush. I, like StageManager, have had non-crushes on people that I would never want to sleep with, but I thought they were wonderfully beautiful human beings.

Totally agree with LittleFish. Or perhaps my non-sexual crushes exist because they would be the wrong kinds of people with whom to seek sexual desires. I'm running through my mental list--for the most part it's women and gay men.
I feel deep admiration for these individuals for the amazing people they are and the work they do. And it just totally brightens your day when you find out new things they are involved with or just having general discourse with them and or being in their presense.
Personally, it's much more than "thinking someone is cool"... although that's a given.

Is this like a Rosie-Tom Cruise thing?
I have a fascination with this guy, but I don't WANT him. I'm just intriugued by him.
I've had this, definitely. I'm not in any position to give advice, though.

Posted: 5/31/07 at 11:18amI love that definition Marlene! I have had several non-sexual crushes. A lot of gay men I have met, as well as some women, have fallen in to that category. I adored them or was fascinated by them and greatly wished for their happiness, success, and well-being, but never entertained any sexual or relationship thoughts with them.

Posted: 5/31/07 at 3:35pmIt happens to me all the time. I have major non-sexual crushes on gay boys. I can't help it! It's normal. I'm not sure when it really crosses over, though.

Posted: 5/31/07 at 4:19pmI have alot of crushes on guys, based solely on their personalities and my interactions with them, but I dont want them. Those men are usually the single, straight ones. Then their are the men that I feel the same towards, but Im also desperatly attracted to them, and want to be with them. Those men are usually married or gay.
