Saw this movie the other night. Fantastic. Beautifully made and the score was marvelous. Bette Davis starred as a disturbed Charlotte Vale who emerges from her mother's despotic household and becomes sophisticated and cultured through her travels. It was full of clever twists and the plotline flowed so well.

One of Bette's best. I adore that film.

Tina (Janis Wilson) is WAYYYYYYYYYYY over the top.. even by 40's melodrama and Bette Davis standards.

Mary Wickes is treature.. and it is fun to see stage actress Ilka Chase.

But for me.. Gladys Cooper steals every scene she is in.

Janis Wilson is also her daughter in "Watch on the Rhine."

Great film and cast; Lee Patrick [oh we're just girls gossiping], Mary Wickes [Dora, I suspect you're a treasure], Oscar-nommed Gladys Cooper, and Claude "Dr. Owl" Rains.

I had forgotten about Lee Patrick. Claude Rains is beyond praise in everything he ever did.

A true classic. One of Davis's best, Claude Rains is sensational (I still haven't gotten over his brilliant, Oscar-worthy work in Mr. Smith), as is Gladys Cooper.

Wait I don't see the humor in what Glebb said. Could someone explain?

Sorry Fabrizio.
I've just started so many Bette Davis threads that I thought I would try a new approach on yours.
NOW VOYAGER is one of the best and I adore it!
I'm glad it found you. :)

JUNE BRIDE is from 1948 and not on DVD. A nice, wry comedy with Mary Wickes, Fay Bainter, a cameo by Debbie Reynolds, Robert Montgomery, and Barbara Bates ["Phoebe" from "All about Eve].

I've got this hyper-butch retired military boyfriend. Imagine my shock when I met him to find out that his favorite movie is "Now, Voyager," which I had never seen until he insisted I watch it.

Since then, whenever we go on vacation, one of us always says to the other, "Sit down, Charlotte, and write something to someone."

LOVE this film. Think Cruel Sandwich has ever even heard of it?
