I don't even know the movie (Priest had to explain it to me) and I find it hysterical -- if I ever see it when it pops up on cable I'll probably laugh ucontrollably.

Not surprising, just weird.
Like the Bizarro Jerry episode of Seinfeld.
Or the part in Shaun of the Dead where the six main characters meet six other characters who look, sound, act, and are dressed exactly like themselves.
