Drama wise, I love "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison" and "Black Narcissus". Yep- Deborah Kerr was the best nun....
Comedy wise, ya can't beat "Sister Act". Ah, just to see Dame Maggie Smith's facial reactions to Whoopie...priceless.

Posted: 9/2/04 at 7:15amBERNADETTE. It's a the French movie based on the life of Bernadette Soubirous. I saw most of it last week in Lourdes but the projector broke down one third of the way through it. Will have to scour E-Bay for an American-compatible video. What I saw was magnificent. It was far more accurate than THE SONG OF BERNADETTE (which I love).

Posted: 9/2/04 at 8:51amI've always thought that Song of Bernadette would make a wonderful musical - even the name sings...it is such a beautiful and touching story. I cry every time I see it.

Posted: 9/2/04 at 3:08pmJean and Walter Kerr turned SONG OF BERNADETTE into a musical. It played in London and was an ignominious flop.

Both Sister Act movies were great.
My favorite nun show on stage is without a doubt Nunsense...Amen

Not to kill the happy theme, but "The Magdalene Sisters" is an excellent (but not in the happy sense) movie.
On to the happy movies. I love Sister Act. And Sound of Music. And that's all I know of that I've seen.

Posted: 9/5/04 at 6:41amOMG I don't think I've ever been so moved by a movie the way "The Magdalene Sisters" moved me. It was....definitely an experience.

I need to see "The Magdalene Sisters".
I remember being shocked when I saw "The Nun's Story".
She didn't sing and wasn't funny and I was not sure she was going to live happily ever after.

I go to Saint Mary's College.
Our mascot?
We're the Belles.
So I have to say "The Bells of Saint Mary's".
But yeah, I love "Sister Act".
And "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit"
And the "The Sound of Music".
Does "Mermaids" count?
Or "Mommy Dearest"?
How about "Superstar"?

This is an old thread that started before I was even posting... but I would just like to weigh in now and agree with bwaylover that "Black Narcissus" is the BEST for drama, and one of the most beautifully, hauntingly photographed movies ever made (by legendary cinematographer Jack Cardiff of "The Red Shoes" fame).
And of course, the Sound of Music!
