Oprah has Journey with their new lead singer, Arnel Pindeda. He sounds just like Steve Perry, but maybe with more emotion. I just teared up and got the chills during Don't Stop Believing.
anyone else watching? This is truly amazing
Yup! I'm watching it right now too! WOW! He is AMAZING! Now I hope Journey comes out with a new song! Wow! Did I say he is AMAZNG?!
Oh good, I'm glad someone else saw this. I want to see him do every single Journey hit. Good thing I"m dvring this show. I can't wait to see them do that again!

Very talented guy, but there was just something special about Steve Perry.
There's always something special about originals, Blue. But I've never seen such a magnificent replacement in my entire life.
I just went to You Tube and watched Perry doing that song. I couldn't detect one iota of difference in voices.
I've heard and seen him. But I agree with Blueroses. I love me some Steve Perry!
BTW, Oprah is repeated in the early morning hours.

But Steve's gone. Aren't you happy to have the original sound back?

Another heartwarming story of a fan with a cover band being hired to replace his idol.

Jane, the band has every right to move forward without Steve, and I don't begrudge Pineda his success. It's the gig of a lifetime...good for him! I just prefer Perry myself.

Pineda's personal story is a triumph in itself. Recalls the life of Edith Piaf to me.
He spent two years as a young teen on the street in poverty in Manila after his mother died. Grew to fame on his own as a singer.
Quite a story.
I see he and his wife live in Quezon City, some of which was heavily flooded during Typhoon Onday. I hope their home was not flooded.
Arnel Pineda
Blueroses, I'm not trying to get anyone to prefer Arnel Pineda. I prefer Steve Perry also.
I'm just giving props to the new guy.

He re-recorded most of Journey's hit songs in a 2-cd set that was released exclusively at Walmart. The first CD were the re-recorded songs. I think the second CD were all new songs.
thanks wildcard. I saw some more of him on you tube. The Oprah version today was just so good, though. Better than the ones I saw.
(I also watched a few vids with Steve Perry though, he was fabulous with Journey)
I swear, Alvin and the Chipmunks could do Don't Stop Believing and I'd love it. I have a certain emotional tie to ROA and it brings me right back to the show when I hear it.

Did they cover the posts he was making on the web during the tour about how he felt totally suicidal? The band quickly called a meeting and got him to retract.
I thought I heard recently that he had quit the band because he was homesick. Either the radio reported it wrong, or he went back to give it another shot.

?? huh, PIneda was suicidal? No, they didn't touch on that. Just a brief bio of him.

Yeah, he was going on and on about how miserable he was and how he wanted to die.
I guess he did stop believin'.
aww, that makes me even happier for his success.
Just looked up Arnel Pineda on youtube and WOW, he is really, really great!!!
But I have always gotten Steve Perry mixed up with Don Henley's voice. They just sound so similar to me.

The thing is, this happened just a couple months ago. He is under contract with the band. A hired gun. Not quite a scab. And deeply unhappy.
I'm not happy to hear he's not happy.
OT-I supposedly scanned Julian Lennon's ticket tonight. I had no idea who it was, I'm so out of the loop.
You mix up Steve Perry and Don Henley?!

Just surprised. Steve's voice is so distinctive, I didn't think he could be confused with anyone.

Oh. Sorry if I came off rude then. It just seems to me that they have this sort of raspy voice when they sing (but this confusion mainly happened when I was younger though!
) But I know that Steve's voice is more powerful.
