Assuming she's being honest here, I'm really quite impressed. She attacked him SO much, but if she's really willing to put disagreements aside and say "hey, he has ignited this nation, and I'm inspired too and I support my next President".. well, that's pretty darn big of her. Makes me respect her quite a bit more. I still don't agree with many of her views, but.. good for her if she really feels the way she expressed today!
It makes me really, really happy to see, after such a brutal and attack-based election, that many people of the Republican party are really being extremely supportive. Heck, even George Bush gave quite a nice comment on it this morning! I HOPE that their feelings of respect for Obama are pure, but even if they're not, at least they're putting that positive image out there to try and help quell the sure-to-be anger of the Republican electorate.
So yeah, I can only hope that the McCain SUPPORTERS can take this which is much grace as McCain, Elizabeth, and even Bush have shown! If they can, it gives me hope that we really CAN come together and make this nation great again :)

Oh, like I said, I really have no idea if that whole thing WAS genuine or not. I have a hard time believing it COULD have been, when just a week ago she was RIPPING him apart, jumping right on the "spreading the wealth" bandwagon and all that. It's REALLY REALLY hard to believe that someone who previously seemed SO ridiculous could actually be this level headed.
And yet... if I were to have JUST watched this clip and nothing else? I would *probably* think she was genuine. It came ACROSS pretty darn heartfelt.
But again, either way, even if she still DOES hate him and has annoyingly ignorant views and stuff, it's just nice to see the calm finally coming after such a huge storm. It's nice to see that at least people in the Republican party are making an effort to heal some of the wounds they've made.

Even if you didn't agree with Obama's politics it is inspiring that he was elected as our president. He won fair and square. It was history making. My daughter, who is African American, is able lift her head higher this morning. She is so proud. I don't agree with Obama views and yet I do feel inspired at the same time.
I don't think Hasselbeck is kissing butt. I think people on both sides understand the significance of Obama winning.
This should be a proud moment for America and her people.

Indeed, Adam Chris. The candidate I voted for didn't win either, but I do feel the energy and optimism created by Obama's win. It's a breath of fresh air and a sigh of relief that the people of this nation desperately, desperately need.
My great-grandpa came to America (Chicago, in fact) from Ireland in 1925. He used to tell me about going down the street and seeing shop after shop with signs in the door that said "No n***ers or Irish need apply," and how heartbreaking it was for him to see that - not just for himself, but for everyone who was told "Don't bother, we're not even going to pretend to give you a chance". As I told a friend last night, it's as if we as a country have FINALLY taken down that sign. It DOESN'T matter where you've come from or what boat your ancestors stepped off of. If you have a goal, it is within your power to get it!

But Elisabeth doesn't just disagree with his politics. She thinks he's a dangerous, misogynistic, anti-American, socialist who associates with terrorists.
I can see making the leap between disagreeing on how to end the war and being inspired by the hope he brings to many people. But she made the overnight leap from thinking he's a dangerous anti-American to being inspired by him. I don't see the sense in that. I just think she's nuts.

Posted: 11/6/08 at 1:10pmI'm pretty sure she said she thought it was inspiring how he brought a lot of people together and influenced so many young people. She never said she agrees with everything he does. She said she will support the person in office, which was probably a very difficult thing for her to do. She probably is sick of losing a 3(sometimes 4) to 1 fight everyday as well. We're so tired of unequality and conflict in the country but we jump at the chance to create more of it every single day.

We ripped McCain for running a nasty campaign, but acknowledged his gracious concession speech. We also said his supporters should now support their new president-elect. Isn't Hasselback being gracious and supportive, and doesn't she deserve the same consideration we gave McCain? Could she have responded any more positively if one of us had scripted it for her?
The election is over. If she can move beyond it, so can I.

Sorry but you guys are ridiculous. I am waiting for the day when someone is going to realize that just because someone has different political persuasions than you doesn't make then a "stupid whore" or a bad person. People are entitled to their opinions (and I don't agree with a lot of what Elisabeth says) and while it's natural to disagree and have an argument about it, it's also crossing the line to call someone names because they don't believe the same political things you do. And you may argue it's not political it's moral blah blah blah...who cares?!?! Behind every politician, behind every politically outspoken celebrity, behind everyone who has a strong political mindset, THERE IS A PERSON. A human being who exists outside of their political persuasions.
Elisabeth is a human being and she was genuine and sincere and EXTREMELY graceful in what she said yesterday on the show. I do not think that if McCain won the rest of them would have had said nearly as nice things as she did. And she didn't have to. She didn't have to say half of the things she said but because she did we're still attacking her? Give the woman a break. She made a lot of sense in what she said on the show yesterday and Democrat, Republican, black, white, gay, straight, man or woman, you should respect the fact that she was honest, sincere, graceful, curtious, and what she had to say was relevant.
Good for her and I applaud her.

I think there is a world of difference between disagreeing and degrading name calling.
That is the main reason I refrained from sharing my political views.
The hate was so radiant that I chose not to participate.
Of course, not everyone who had an opinon was crude but there was enough of it to turn me off.
