I'm still surprised at all the acclaim that Cate Blanchett has been getting. I felt that she was merely imitating Hepburn.
I must be the only one who feels Sideways is overrated. I'd love to see Before Sunset win Best Adapted- but it won't.
I'd liek to say that, only Ive never seen Sideways lol.
melissa errico fan-
I agree and disagree with you. While Blanchett was imitating Hepburn (which she kinda had to do), she made the role vibrant, sympathetic, and very charming. I felt that she really became Hepburn, almost as much as Foxx became Ray Charles.

Let the tallying begin...
That should go without saying. I really don't like him.
I'm feeling like Rock will get high marks from the critics, but I won't like him one bit.
I also predict that when she wins, Hillary will show NO sign of emotion whatsoever. Call me crazy, but I like hysterical weeping on Oscar night a la Gwyneth or Halle.
Actually, I had an interesting conversation with my brother and we both agree that neither Blanchett nor FOxx should win for these roles, which are basically "renditions" of well-known celebrities.
And I love Blanchett and it truly pains me to say that.
So...
ACTOR
Should: Johnny Depp or Don Cheadle
Will: Foxx or Eastwood
SUPPORTING ACTOR
Should: Morgan Freeman
Will: Freeman
ACTRESS
Should: Hilary Swank
Will: Swank
SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Should: Laura Linney
Will: Cate Blanchett
DIRECTOR
Should: Scorsese
Will: Scorsese
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Should: Kaufman
Will: Kaufman
ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Should: Those ubiquitous "Sideways" guys
Will: See above.
I've seen all of the nominated (and many of the snubbed) films. really enjoyed "Kinsey". Neeson and Linney have great chemistry. It's odd, though, that Linney received the film's only nomination. I thought that the screenplay was the best part of the whole thing.
like I said on the thread we had yesterday, I think Johnny Depp should win, and sadly Jamie Foxx will win.
Laura Linney give the best performance out of all the other women in that category. How she will loose to Cate Blanchett is mind boggling - she was annoying and less than brilliant.
And Morgan Freeman? I mean, I know he's going to win - but other than the fact that he's old and will die soon, I can't think of a logical reason. He was wasted in MILLION DOLLAR BABY, and Clive Owen's performance was 1000000x better than his. I'm frustrated.
Munk,
He's going to win because he has never won and possibly will never make another Oscar worthy picture...plain and simple.
Either Morgan or Martin will win an honorary Oscar for mediocre performances/directing.
Laura really was great as Mrs. Kinsey, but my devotion belongs to Virginia Madsen. Hell, I'd like to see any of the other actresses win over Cate, because it really was nothing but an imitation.
with whom Broadway86?
With those who claim that Blanchett's performance was merely an imitation. Oh, well. May the best supporting actress win.
oh ok
mlesh WHY CANT SUNDAY BE TODAY I really want to know the winners. I think I would die happy if Johnny Depp wins for best actor, even though he's not expected to. Heh, I think it would be awsome if suddenly all of the people and movies less likely to win WON. Oh, except if they werent the best. So my wish may be bad. That made 0 sense. nevermind.
coughcoughVirginiaMadsencoughcough
Of course I jest. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
