Who was that directed to?
EDIT: Oh, never mind. I got what you were saying. Sorry.

I hope Cate doesn't win. I really enjoy her, but I was not at all impressed with her performance. I think she got better as the film went on, but that golfing scene alone would be reason enough for me not to give it to her. I understand what a (I don't know...) strong personality (?) Hepburn was, but she made me want to scratch my eyes out! Blech! I'm hoping for Madsen or Linney, or even Portman.
It's a similar deal w/ Morgan Freeman. I think he'll end up being awarded for his body of work, rather than M$B (which I really enjoyed, and I enjoyed him in it...just don't think it was anything mind-boggling). I'd love for Church to take it home, or even Clive Owen.

Posted: 2/25/05 at 5:08pmThat is why I hate award shows - it's not about your body of work or how old you are - it's about this single film that you are nominated for. I hope the voters paid attention to that - the last few Oscar's have been pretty right on - except for HAlle Berry winning for the abominable MONSTER'S BALL. So by saying "may the best supporting actress win," that will not be the case. It's more like, may the most commercial overrated actress win. I thought Linney, Madsen, and Portman's performances were LEAGUES better than Blanchett's imitation. The same reason I do not want Jamie Foxx to win. There's no point, i'm getting pissed off about this and there's nothing to be pissed off about. AHHH!

Posted: 2/25/05 at 5:21pmI totally agree, but I think they're bound to do the "lifetime achievement" thing (for Cate, Freeman, and/or Scorsese). I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but I'd be surprised if Madsen/Church walk away w/ awards. Hell, if they can award based on lifetime achievement, why can't they award them, on the basis of "what are the chances that they'll be in award calibre films again" (seems just as illogical an excuse to give them the awards as they're old and have a great body of work. What the hell?...did that make any sense? Probably not! Oh well!)

Posted: 2/25/05 at 5:33pmYes, I agree - way too young. I can see Madsen's win, but T.H. Church? Come on - he was funny - nothing more.

Posted: 2/25/05 at 6:20pmMaybe lifetime achivement is the wrong phrase...Something more along the lines of "making up for lost time" or "past due" or something. I can see the distinction in my head, and it makes perfect sense there, but I can't articulate it. I don't know.

Posted: 2/25/05 at 7:18pmThe way I see it... if Blanchett wins, it wouldn't be for her body of work, even though every amazing performance she gave was ignored by the Academy. Wait a minute... she's never been bad.
