and 2004 was going to be the year that the youth vote changed everything and carried jfk to the white house on a sea of change.
it's february. let's see how things look in, say, september. if you have a nominee by then.

Posted: 2/20/08 at 2:06pmI think somebody forgot to tell the youth that--and I don't remember ANYONE being excited about John Kerry, not even John Kerry.

Don't laugh, I was a "performer" for 2 years at the Saints Black Party - when it actually was "The Saint" - 1981 and 82.
Modesty and the board rules prevent me from saying what I did (or rather what was done to me) - but trust me - todays show has nothing on what went on back then.

"The only thing that Obama seems to inspire in people is to vote for him. A truly inspirational person inspires people to want to make the world a better place. '
Wait--what?
Otherwise uninspired people see him as a person who has the ability to change things, so they turned out in droves to vote for him. Constituencies that otherwise are notorious for not voting. His message is "Yes WE can", and people are buying into it. Voting is one of of the most powerful and fundamental rights we have in this country. A vote can change the world.
How is getting people to vote not inspiring people to actively go out and change the world?
And Jerby, about that snakes on a plane metaphor, well, people came, they saw, and the Obama supporters are well on their way to conquering McCain in the general.
Marc, I can't get over such lame logic... you don't have any damn clue what the average Obama supporter does or doesn't do with their time. Being for Obama or Hillary, being Republican or Democrat--none of this is an automatic decider on how altruistic you are.

Yeah the nomination of Kerry immediately destroyed any notion that the youth would come out in full force. There was no enthusiasm for him. Yet the 18-25 vote in 2004 was an improvement, and the first time since the 18 end got the chance that the voted in greater proportion than their percentage of society as a whole.
I am not convinced the "youth vote" will be huge, but there has actually been voting from the group (unlike say Dean's support in 2004) it seems unlikely that they would register and rally now then just forget in November. Unless they do.
