I disagree with him on almost everything but must give credit where credit is due here. I support him 100% here and wish him luck getting it passed. No one has a need or right to own such weapons of mass killing.

And these new laws are going to going to prevent that from happening how? How will they prevent a crazy son or relative from taking the gun and shooting people? And the percentage of kids who die from accidental gunshot wounds is incredibly small, compared to car accidents, cancer, etc. But of course thats what the mainstream media covers because it makes gun owners look bad.

You guys have no idea the difference between assault weapons and semi-automatic weapons. I know the word "semi-automatic" is scary to most of you, but almost every gun available to people now are semi-automatic, except revolvers. Not all of them are assault weapons and would kill someone in one or two shots, if you people knew anything you would realize that.

So? You have to have a valid license, registration, insurance, good history, blah blah blah.

I had an interesting thought. What if you had to buy insurance in order to purchase and operate a semi-automatic weapon, as you call them. That insurance, like cars, goes to whatever. Repairing the gun. Pays for incidentals stemming from accidents, like if you accidentally shoot someone in the face.

Also, let's remember the whole "cars kill people" argument is just asinine and the people that use it are typically...dumb.
The point is, with these types of weapons, you can pretty much kill ton's of people in a very short amount of time. That is fact. NO ONE needs these types of guns. No normal citizen.
And Abby, once again you fail to realize that no one is trying to take away your precious guns. Actually, we are trying to ban certain types of weapons. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and you are pissing your diapers because it's pretty clear that gun laws are starting to favor our side (ya know...the sane side.)

I have already written my congressman and senators regarding this, and I strongly urge others to do so as well. We all know the glacial pace at which Congress moves, and it will be even slower when taking on the NRA without being pushed by their constituents. It may seem futile, and in fact my letters will be in vain if likeminded people remain silent.

And once again fingerlakes, you are proving your ignorance about guns and so called "assault weapons." You sound like someone who has never shot a weapon from your ignorance on the subject, or you're just too stupid to do actual research on guns, but either way, you don't know the definition of an assault weapon and have probably never shot one before. Just because a gun "looks" scary, doesn't mean it's as powerful as you think. Do some research before you post about something you know nothing about.
Here's a picture to make it a little easier for you to understand. Most murders caused by a firearm are by handguns, not assault rifles.

Washington DC and Chicago have two of the highest murder rates in the country, and also the strictest guns laws. These laws are going to do nothing and I can't wait to see who you people blame when it happens again, because it will. Criminals aren't going to abide by all of these new "laws" and will find a way to get guns no matter what.

And how are they going to do that? Are they going to go into every gun owners home and check to see if their guns are locked up? That doesn't seem very constitutional.
